    Position Summary

    The Coordinator of Lab Coordinator at Wesleyan College is a vital member of the Division of Science and Mathematics, responsible for overseeing the biology and chemistry laboratories. Job responsibilities include teaching two introductory biology courses (with lab) per year, purchasing supplies and equipment, preparing for, setting up and breaking down instructional laboratory exercises for 100 level courses in chemistry and biology, assisting with microbiology lab prep, coordinating and training student workers, assisting with tracking chemical inventory and waste, facilitating equipment scheduled maintenance, monitoring building systems (de-ionized water system, instruments) and assisting with animal care.

    The department seeks an experienced scientist who will work with the department to ensure our students have a quality laboratory experience.

    Essential Functions

    • purchasing supplies and equipment
    • preparing for, setting up and breaking down introductory instructional laboratory exercises
    • coordinating and supervising student workers
    • coordinating with faculty in the tracking of chemical inventory and disposal of waste
    • monitoring building systems (de-ionized water system, instruments)
    • coordinating maintenance of science equipment (e.g., pipets, microscopes, balances)
    • assisting with animal care and maintenance (eg., mouse colony and other vertebrate and invertebrate animals housed in Munroe)
    • teaching at least one section per calendar year of biology coursework

    Education, Experience & Additional Skills Required (bulleted statements)

    • MS / MA degree in Biology (or closely related discipline)
    • Effective, engaging teacher and communicator
    • Well-organized and able to multi-task
    • Detail oriented
    • Excellent time management skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs

    Work Hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-5:00 beginning August 1, 2024
