    SOUTH BAY SANDBLASTING & TANK CLEANING, INC. located in San Diego, CA is a shipyard related subcontractor looking to hire a Ship System Assistant

    Job Summary

    We are looking for a responsible Ship System Assistant to support jobs during the execution phase of the project. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong understanding of role and what is needed to execute and accomplish the job.

    Must be in San Diego California, we are not looking to relocate candidates at this time.

    Qualifications:
    • Pipe fitter who understands Ship Alteration Drawings is a plus.
    • Understand the following ships systems: Air Systems (LP,HP and DRY), Main Reduction Gears, Chill Water Controllable Pitch Propellers, Lube Oil Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Electronic Cooling Water System.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to obtain/maintain a DoD secret security clearance
    • Requires walking, reaching, sitting and concentration in the presence of occasional noise
    • Understand flushing ship systems.
    • Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
    • Available Monday through Friday and sometimes Monday through Sunday.
    Responsibilities:
    • Provide technical support for pipe flushing and design: Hydraulic Systems, Lube Oil Systems, Fuel Oil Systems, Chill Water, Fresh Water Systems, Air Systems (LP/HP/DRY), and Electronic Cooling Water.
    • Review and understand EOSS and Ship-Alteration Drawings.
    • Identify where to inlet, outlet, and jumper the ship's system from an executional standpoint.
    • Read and understand process-controlled procedures (PCP).
    • Open Work Authorization Form (WAFS) to begin work.
    • Read and Understand Basic Work Specifications.
    • Basic understanding of NAVSEA Standard Items.
    • Ability to capture inefficiencies and identify them on a condition found report.
    • Attend roundtables with Prime Contractor and Government.
    • Act as the information hub to ensure continuity of work
    • Meet deadlines to ensure Process Controlled Procedures are submitted in a timely manner.
    • Report to TF management
    Education Requirements:
    • High school diploma or GED, B.A., Technical/Vocational trade school, or apprenticeship
    • College degree preferred
    Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
    • Must be able to climb up and down ladders and gangways, work aloft while wearing fall prevention equipment
    • Ability to lift to 50 pounds and carry the same for short distances and up and down stairs and steep inclines
    • The work requires long periods of sitting in awkward positions, standing on a variety of surfaces and at differing angles, bending over, crouching, and climbing up and over obstructions such as scaffolding, ladders, and internal barge and boat structural members.
    Other requirements:

    This employer participates in E-Verify. Ability to read technical English is a must. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Must be able to pass background screening to obtain access to all Shipyards.

    Travel as needed.
