Mechanical Design Engineer - Seattle, United States - Igniter Engineering
Description
This is an insanely rare opportunity to get on the ground floor of a great startup in the space industry.
This is a W-2, contract role, for 3 months, at 20 hours/week, either hybrid from Bothell, WA or fully remote with a hybrid team.
After 3 months, you will likely have the opportunity for direct hire with the client, at 40 hours/week (full-time, salary) if that makes sense for all parties.
The ideal candidate will create, draft, and design product layouts and schemes using leadership direction. This individual will test products and make adjustments where necessary. Additionally, they will examine broken products and resolve issues for future designs. Additive manufacturing skillset will be a must, as it is being incorporated into the design upfront.Responsibilities:
Design mechanical / structural systems and products based on set given and derived requirements
Perform related analysis (simple FEA) and classical hand calculations to optimize design of product
Modify designs based on cost and manufacturing capabilities
Work with structural analysis to verify capabilities of structure before fabrication
Holds design reviews and presentations among peers to gain design feedback
Define verification methods such as component, system-level and spacecraft level testing, and participate in that testing
Assures system and product quality by confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes
Prepares product reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information
Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests
Prepares manufacturing drawings to ASME Y14.5 standards using GD&T for manufacturability and repeatability
Troubleshoot manufacturing and assembly issues
Multi-task, be a self starter, work under pressure and meet deadlines consistently
Creation and maintenance of a Bill of Materials for one or more projects.
Ongoing design reviews/brainstorming sessions with engineers/designers working on projects under your control.
Minimum Requirements:
U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card)
Minimum 3 years mechanical design experience
Experience/knowledge in additive manufacturing
Experience in aerospace design principles and in coordinating across multiple disciplines to develop design (e.g., Materials, Structures) to ensure compliance with all requirements
CAD experience
Preferred Skillsets:
CAD experience (knowledge of NX preferred)
Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Solidworks a plus
Experience with the design of ACS/RCS thrusters a plus
