    Job Purposes::

    DRSS is looking for an instructor for middle school age students to teach Technology, Engineering and Coding Literacy in order to empower students to become collaborators, innovators, inventors, and explorers. Instruction topics include design thinking, engineering, Python, HTML5, JavaScript, Raspberry Pi, and Arduino taught through exciting hands-on student projects such as: enhancing digital portfolios, building apps, controlling robots, programming circuits, and more. In addition, the instructor is responsible for developing and enhancing the 8th grade STEM curriculum to be aligned with the school's IT/Engineering pathways and 21st Century Skills, such as: accountability, critique, self-reflection, technology literacy, and basic design sensibilities. The teacher leading this course will work closely with members of the 6th and 7th grade STEM Foundations teachers and the 8th grade teaching team to ensure that these essential STEM and 21st Century Skills are taught and reinforced across the curricula in authentic, real-world ways.

    Required Qualifications::

  • Bachelor's degree in education, communication, technology, engineering or related field earned by August 1,
  • 4-9 or 7-12 teaching license or qualified for alternative license by August 1,
  • Background or interest in computer coding and technology
  • Outstanding communication and collaborative skills
  • Ability to work with middle school students in a hands-on, project-based learning environment
  • Proficient in common technology platforms (ex: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and enthusiasm to learn new media platforms
  • Preferred Qualifications::

  • Experience teaching coding and engineering to middle school students
  • Ability to use technology to promote learning, creativity and collaboration
  • Experience with project-based or problem-based learning and accompanying differentiated assessments
  • Current Career Tech license in engineering or information technology
