    Responsibilities

    1. Patient Assessment:
      • Conduct thorough assessments of patients with gastrointestinal and general surgical conditions.
      • Collect and review medical histories, medications, and pertinent diagnostic test results.
      • Assess and monitor vital signs and other relevant physiological parameters.
    2. Care Planning and Coordination:
      • Collaborate with gastroenterologists, general surgeons, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized care plans.
      • Implement and coordinate patient care plans, ensuring continuity of care throughout the patient's hospitalization or outpatient treatment.
    3. Preoperative and Postoperative Care:
      • Assist in the preparation of patients for surgery, including preoperative assessments and education.
      • Provide postoperative care, monitoring patients for complications, managing pain, and promoting recovery.
    4. GI Procedures Assistance:
      • Assist in procedures and other diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.
      • Monitor patients during and after procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
    5. Wound Care and Surgical Site Management:
      • Monitor and manage surgical wounds, incisions, and drains.
      • Assess for signs of infection or other complications and collaborate with the healthcare team for appropriate interventions.
    6. Patient Education:
      • Educate patients and their families about their surgical procedures, recovery process, and post-discharge care.
      • Provide information on medications, potential side effects, and the importance of adherence to the prescribed treatment plan.
    7. Medication Management:
      • Administer medications as prescribed by physicians, including pain management and antibiotics.
      • Monitor patients for adverse reactions or side effects related to medications.
    8. Monitoring and Documentation:
      • Monitor and document patients' responses to treatments, interventions, and surgical procedures.
      • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, documenting progress notes and any changes in the patient's condition.
    9. Collaboration with Healthcare Team:
      • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, other nurses, and healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
      • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings to discuss patient progress and adjust care plans as needed.

    Qualifications
    • Registered Nurse (RN) or (LPN) with a valid license, State of Iowa.
    • If Medical Assistant, current certification is required.
    • BLS/Mandatory Reporter.
    • Specialty experience / med-surg experience is desirable.
    • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced clinic environment.
