About the Position:
The EHS Officer is a hands-on, execution-focused role responsible for implementing and sustaining day-to-day safety programs across Valmetal operations. This position emphasizes hazard identification, regulatory compliance at the operational level, employee training, and corrective action follow-through to reduce risk and ensure a safe working environment. The EHS Officer works closely with operations and leadership to address task-level and site-level safety needs and serves as a visible safety presence in the field.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Safety Program Implementation & Improvement
· Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments across facilities & field
· Implement approved safety policies, procedures, and programs in operational environments through hands-on training, coaching, and field support
· Implement and support the Injury and Illness Prevention Program (IIPP) through field execution, inspections, employee training, hazard identification, and corrective action follow-through
· Provide field-based input and recommendations to support the development or improvement of safety procedures based on observed work practices and identified hazards
· Identify gaps between documented procedures and actual work practices and communicate recommendations to the EHS Specialist and leadership
· Support the rollout of new or updated safety procedures by reinforcing expectations with supervisors and employees
· Identify unsafe conditions and behaviors and drive corrective actions to completion.
· Track, document, and follow up on safety action items
· Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
· Perform routine facility walkthroughs to identify and document hazards
· Travel to manufacturing facilities and customer sites to conduct safety training, inspections, and hazard assessments
Regulatory Compliance
· Support compliance with OSHA and applicable federal, state, and local safety environmental regulations
· Ensure field-level compliance in high-risk areas, including:
o Electrical safety
o Fall protection
o Machine guarding
o Lockout/Tagout
· Verify proper use, availability, and condition of required PPE
Fleet & DOT Support
· Support fleet and driver safety initiatives through hands-on training, coaching, and incident response, as needed
· Assist with investigations involving vehicle or transportation-related incidents
· Collaborate with our Service Department, the EHS Specialist, and external DOT consultants to reinforce safe driving practices and field-level safety expectations
Training & Employee Engagement
· Deliver safety training and workshops for employees and supervisors
· Plan, coordinate, and execute mock evacuations and emergency response drills in partnership with operations leadership
· Lead onboarding safety training and Job Safety Analyses (JSAs)
· Lead and facilitate toolbox talks and other on-the-floor safety communications tailored to current tasks, hazards, incidents, and operational conditions.
· Conduct supervisor and manager safety coaching
· Promote a strong safety culture through employee engagement and on-the-floor presence
· Support safety, health, and environmental initiatives as assigned
Collaboration & Support
· Work directly with supervisors and operations leaders to address safety issues
· Partner with the EHS Specialist on documentation and audit preparation
· Support regulatory inspections, audits, and third-party consultant reviews
Metrics & Reporting
· Track leading and lagging safety indicators
· Provide field-level input for safety reports and trend analysis
· Support continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications:
Education
· Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred in Safety, Environmental Health, or related field
· OSHA 30-Hour General Industry certification strongly preferred, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
Experience
· Minimum of 5–8 years of hands-on safety experience in manufacturing or industrial environments, including experience implementing safety programs and procedures, supporting policy rollouts, and providing field-based input to improve safety practices
· Leading safety training and workshops
· Conducting inspections and audits
· Managing high-risk hazards (LOTO, fall protection, electrical, etc.)
· Participating in incident investigations and corrective actions
· Working knowledge of OSHA regulations
· Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly

Environmental Conditions & Physical Demands:
· This position operates in manufacturing and field environments with regular interaction on the production floor, as well as limited desk-based administrative work
· The employee may be exposed to moderate to high noise levels, dust, fumes, moving equipment, or other airborne particles and must be comfortable wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, gloves, and high-visibility vests
· The role requires frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout production and warehouse areas
· Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of items up to 25 pounds may be required
· Physical activities may include standing, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, squatting, climbing stairs or ladders, and navigating uneven surfaces
· Occasional travel by car, train, or plane for training, audits, or offsite meetings may be necessary
· The employee must be able to observe work activities and operating conditions to identify unsafe behaviors, hazardous conditions, and compliance gaps
· Frequent verbal communication with employees and supervisors in operational environments is required
· Travel between company locations is required and may involve extended periods of standing, walking, or conducting training sessions
· This position includes occasional visits to customer dairy operations, which may involve outdoor environments, uneven walking surfaces, interaction with livestock areas, and exposure to varying weather conditions.
· Overtime, weekend work, or variable schedules may be required to support training, audits, incident response, or operational needs
· A standard 40-hour workweek is expected; however, additional hours may be required based on business demands
