    The Gig:


    The Fleet Safety Training Manager is responsible for company compliance with statutory STCW requirements as well as creating and executing the safety training strategy in alignment with M&T.

    They will identify safety training needs through liaison with ship and shore leaders, ship visits, survey results and feedback from Crew.

    Developing and implementing a consistent and structured shipboard approach to safety training.


    The Fleet Safety Training Manager will ensure consistent delivery of safety training by equipping all shipboard trainers (Supervisors, Managers, Divisions Heads) with Train the Trainer skills, familiarity with the resource library and knowledge of applicable policies and procedures.


    They will energize and motivate Crew by developing engaging, interesting and relevant content, appropriate to the knowledge and skills of the intended audience.

    Act as the point of contact for the development of other M&T training, including all Nautical, Seamanship and Technical requirements as well as workplace safety.


    The Fleet Safety Training Manager will lead the Safety Training Specialist role and provide guidance on safety training strategy and delivery to shipboard trainers.

    What You'll Be Up To:


    • Responsible for strategy & action plan to continuously improve all onboard Crew skills and competence in safety related duties
    • Ensure Crew induction process meets statutory requiremments, works with Training & M&T to improve the process ensuring consistency across the fleet
    • Conduct safety training and development needs assessments to identify performance gaps and implement training solutions to maximize performance
    • Manage the hiring, ongoing development, mentorship, and day-to-day deliverables of the Safety Training Specialist
    • Support and coach supervisors and managers in the facilitation of on-the-job safety training
    • Ensure that all safety training is aligned with safety initiatives and promote a healthy safety culture
    • Support and ensure the update and maintenance of training records tracking database to ensure compliance with company and regulatory training requirements
    • Responsible for working with the People Team in ensuring all STCW certifications are approved and adhere to our policies, and raising any non conformities to them
    • Supports and collaborates with M&T Leadership to ensure that our Training Matrix is up to date, relevant and cost effective
    • Liaise with Operations Teams to ensure there are adequate training courses scheduled with external partners, coordinates and ensures budget alignment
    • Support the Marine and Technical crew in continually improving policies and processes to ensure effective delivery of trainings
    • Maintain oversight of shipboard drill performance to identify training needs.
    • Enhance and produce our safety training modules/programs in collaboration with M&T
    • During ship "ramp up" periods or other period of time identified that a ship may have a high Crew turnover of Crew, schedule the ramp up plan, sail onboard to assist with training and coordinate any external safety trainers as needed
    • Collaborates with Safety Engagement Officers, Crew Engagement Managers and Leaders to create and establish an engagement strategy that promotes a Safety Culture on board all of our ships
    Superpowers Required:


    • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Safety and L&D Role, with facilitation and training experience in a large organization
    • Strong communication skills, both written & spoken
    • Passionate about people-centered learning methodologies and delivering training in an engaging, exciting way.
    • Demonstrated ability to lead and influence at all levels
    • Strong collaboration skills; partnering with third parties
    • Ability to plan, multi task and manage time effectively
    • All certificates as required by the STCW code for this position.
    • Minimum 25% travel is required in the role, both domestic and international
