    Summary



    In this capacity, he/she offers treatment in the form of assessment, clinical consultation, and psychological assessment, to other members of the team.

    The incumbent is assigned to Mental Health - Emergency Department.

    They consult with multidisciplinary staff in the Emergency Department setting on a wide variety of Veteran care issues to include psychiatric emergencies and triage for potential psychiatric inpatient admissions, as well as psychiatric consultation to inpatient Medicine Service.

    Duties


    The mission of the Columbia VA Health Care System is to provide Veterans focused, performance-driven health care - and the main facility, the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center, has a long and proud history of providing South Carolina Veterans with the highest quality health care.


    The Columbia VA Health Care System provides outpatient care through seven Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in South Carolina in the Upstate, Midlands and Pee Dee areas of South Carolina.

    The seven CBOCs are located in Anderson, Florence, Greenville, Rock Hill, Orangeburg, Spartanburg, and Sumter. All clinics with the exception of Rock Hill are VA employee staffed. All clinics have a mental health component available.

    The Columbia VA Hospital became affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in May 1975. Also in 1975, a satellite outpatient clinic was opened in Greenville, South Carolina to extend medical care and benefits.

    Job duties include but no limited to:
    1)

    Systematically evaluates Veteran care program:
    and

    2) Exhibits leadership in initiating changes in Veteran care based on current concepts and findings from research and/or studies; and,

    3) Successfully integrates the activities of the employee's assignment with other patient care programs at the facility and with similar programs on a broader geographic basis; and

    4) Consistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating serious ill multi symptomatic Veterans

    5) Actively participates in Medical Center committees and teams, as assigned by the Chief of Mental Health Services

    6) Participates in inpatient psychiatry treatment team, designed to enhance and improve the delivery of Veteran care services, as assigned by the Chief, Mental Health Services and Inpatient Program Manager

    7) Participation in long range program planning and model development for effective delivery of health services required.

    8) The PA for mental health facilitates the delivery of Veteran care in collaboration with health professionals, inpatient program manager, and other health care professionals.
