    As a Development Engineer you will interact with Research Chemists, Chemical Operations, Facility Maintenance, and Site leadership to develop and pilot new polymer resin formulas and Intellectual Property to support PPG's Paint and Coatings Businesses.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Support site EH&S initiatives by developing/modifying product and associated operational procedures to meet site goals and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage and implement the activities required to scale resin products developed in the laboratory to a pilot scale at the Springdale Development Center.
    • Conduct Resin Risk Reviews for new resin development requests that cover questions concerning raw material handling, manufacturability, reproducibility, safety, and equipment capability.
    • Complete the processing of the regulatory requirements and the Management of Change process for introducing new raw materials to the pilot plant.
    • Investigate and confirm that the chemical process can be managed and conducted safely.
    • Work with PPG's commercial plants on the scale up activities to flag any potential issues if the new resin is transferred for large scale production.
    • Create the scale up documentation and help manage Change process for the new resin scale up to ensure the proposed process does not exceed equipment material compatibility, operating limits, and the resin properties fall within the equipment capability limits.
    • Provide the pilot plant operations group on-hand technical support during the actual scale up activity.
    • Analyze improvement recommendations, additional laboratory work, and a report out of the results.
    Qualifications
    • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, or other Chemistry fields of study.
    • Prefer 3+ years of chemical process experience, however, new graduates are welcome to apply.
