DUTIES: Underthe direction of the Psych/DD Nurse Manager, performs general nursing andpsychiatric care, including the administration of physician ordered medicationand treatments; Assists in physical examinations; obtains and records vitalsigns.Documents in the medical recordthe administration of medication and treatments and other pertinentobservations pursuant to a client's health status.Observes, evaluates and records clientbehavior and psychiatric symptoms; Assists in feeding, grooming and selfcare.Evaluates client and staff injuriesand administers and records first aid as indicated.Responds to medical emergencies to administerlife-saving measures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation.Serves as a member of the interdisciplinaryteam, including in collaboration with the client's physician the completion of afunctional client health needs assessment and nursing plan of care pursuant toclient health conditions for those clients in assigned caseload.Develops, implements and evaluates clientself medication programs.Provideshealth teaching to family and clients as indicated.Assists in orienting and training new nursingemployees.Conducts and participates inIn-Service training sessions.Providesclinical oversight to Licensed Practical Nurses who are assigned during sameworking hours.Provides written inputupon Unusual Incident Reports. Completenursing department shift reports of client health conditions so as to ensurecontinuity of care.
QUALIFICATIONS,KNOWLEDGE, SPECIAL EXPERIENCE : Knowledge of professional nursingprocedures; psychiatric or developmentally disabled nursing*; employee training& development*; state & federal regulations, policies & proceduresas related to nursing; public relations*, counseling*.Skill in operation of medical equipment.Ability to deal with some abstract but mostlyconcrete variables; write meaningful, concise & accurate reports;demonstrates physical fitness. *Developedafter employment
