    Responsibilities VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package:

    VA Nurse Total Rewards Inpatient Mental Health (2G): RN functions as an integral member of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

    Contributes as a nursing discipline professional and subject matter expert. Evaluates the patient's response to treatment and progress towards desired outcomes. Revises the plan of care and interventions as necessary. Delivers safe basic psychiatric and physical care to assigned patients. Demonstrates and maintains all required competencies.


    Blind Rehabilitation:
    RN provides quality nursing and rehabilitative care and education to Veterans with significant visual impairment and blindness.

    Along with other members of the team, helps teach a variety of skills courses designed to help Veterans achieve a realistic level of independence.

    Domiciliary The MH RRTP nurse independently provides patient-centered and recovery-oriented care, milieu management, and maintains self-awareness while caring for patients living with MH conditions Participates in interdisciplinary treatment team, Environment of Care rounds, and psychiatric emergencies, reports and addresses safety concerns, and documents nursing assessments, nursing plan of care, patient safety observations, and environmental safety rounds according to facility policy Integrates MH knowledge, skills, abilities, and judgment and is self-directed in goal setting for managing complex situations and provides oversite for LPNs and RNs Medical Rehabilitation RN provides quality nursing and rehabilitative care and education to Veterans with significant physical conditions and impairments.

    RN assists in training Veterans with orthopedic conditions, amputations, traumatic brain injuries, neurological conditions, and helps restore/achieve a reasonable level of independence and adaptive functioning Preferred Experience:

    Obtain ADN/BSN, 2 years psychiatric or rehabilitative nursing experience within last 5 years is preferred but not exclusionary, and the Service will also consider RN candidates who possess varied experience or skills sets that are translatable and can contribute value to the organization.

    Must have the ability to perform Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior (PMDB) Requirements Conditions of Employment U.S.

    Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

    All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.

    Qualifications Basic Requirements:

    United States Citizenship:

    Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

    English Language Proficiency. In accordance with 38 U.S.C.

    7402(d), no person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English.

    Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant:
    The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).

    The approving official may authorize a waiver of the requirement for ACEN or CCNE accreditation of any degree in nursing provided the college or university has regional accreditation from an accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education at the time of the candidate's graduation and the composite qualifications of the applicant warrant such consideration.

    In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

    OR The completion of coursework equivalent to a nursing degree in a MSN Bridge Program that qualifies for professional nursing registration constitutes the completion of an approved course of study of professional nursing.

    Students should submit the certificate of professional nursing to sit for the NCLEX to the VA along with a copy of the MSN transcript.

    (Reference VA Handbook 5005, Appendix G6) OR In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of a current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement for graduation from an approved school of professional nursing.

    Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.

    Nurse I Level 2 Practice:

    Provides Veteran/ patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction and/or safety for assigned patients

    Education Accreditation Requirement:
    Nursing education must be from a school of professional nursing accredited by one of the following accrediting organizations at the time the program was completed by the applicant:(a) The Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), 3343 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 850, Atlanta, GA The ACEN accredits all levels of nursing programs, including clinical doctorate, masters/post master's certificate, baccalaureate, associate and diploma nursing education programs

    (Note:

    The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission/NLNAC changed its name to ACEN in May 2013.

    ACEN's website may be utilized to verify accredited programs using automated inquiry processes; however, for verification of any nursing program's accreditation prior to 1998, an automated inquiry cannot be used and ACEN must be contacted directly via their email contact information on the ACEN website to verify.); or(b) The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), 655 K Street, NW, Suite 7, Washington, DC The CCNE is an accrediting arm of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) and accredits nursing education programs at the bachelor and master's level.

    Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia.


    Foreign Education:

    Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing who possess a current, full, active and unrestricted registration (see paragraph 3c) will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing to warrant appointment as a Nurse who has completed an associate degree level Nursing education program.

    In order to grant credit towards an appointment based on foreign nursing education higher than the associate degree level, formal degree equivalency validation from a recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency accepted by VA such as the International Consultants of Delaware (ICD) must be obtained.


    Degree in a Related Field:

    A graduate level or doctorate degree in health care/management related fields from an institution accredited by the State and approved by the Department of Education at the time the candidate completed the program may be credited as specifically indicated in grade requirements.

    The graduate level or doctorate degree and coursework must provide evidence in support of the nursing role and duties associated with the assignment and grade level.

    Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees. *Note: Foreign education programs/degrees are not creditable as related degrees. Nurse I Level 1 Diploma or associate degree in nursing. No professional nursing experience.

    Nurse I Level 2 Diploma or associate degree in nursing with One year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to a Nurse I, Level 1.

    or Bachelor degree in nursing with no professional nursing experience.

    Nurse I Level 3 Diploma or associate degree in nursing with Two years of professional nursing practice, one of which is a year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level.

    or Bachelor degree in nursing with One year of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 2. or Master's degree in Nursing with No professional nursing experience. or Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with No professional nursing experience.

    Nurse II Bachelor's degree in nursing with Two years of professional nursing experience, one of which is a year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3.

    or Master's degree in nursing with One year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3 or Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with One year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I, Level 3 or Doctorate degree in nursing with no professional nursing practice required or Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with no professional nursing practice.

    Nurse III Master's degree in nursing with Two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III.

    or Master's degree in a related field with a bachelor's degree in nursing with Two years of specialized nursing experience, one of which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III.

    or Doctorate degree in nursing with One year of specialized nursing experience which is equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III.

    or Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with no professional nursing practice required.

    Doctorate degree in a related field with a master's or bachelor's degree in nursing with One year of specialized nursing experience equivalent to Nurse II and meets all dimension requirements for Nurse III.
