    The job of Custodian is maintain the general appearance and condition of the facilities owned and operated by the District; to provide students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play and develop; analyze facilities and advise administration on conditions and needs; must be able to perform essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Ability to follow and give verbal and written directions
    • Physical strength to do moderate lifting and bending
    • Ability to work either in confined quarters or high places, indoors, or outdoors
    • Thorough knowledge of tools, materials, and methods used in maintenance and cleaning of buildings and grounds
    • Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance and responsibilities
    • Ability to work under pressure and deal with emergencies in a calm and effective manner
    • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
    Allowable Substitutions
    • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find acceptable and appropriate.
    Essentials Functions
    • Sweep, mop, scrub, and sand finish floors; dust, wash, and polish furniture; empty and clean waste receptacles; wash windows and walls
    • Clean and sanitize restrooms, dressing rooms, shower rooms, drinking fountains, kitchens, and otherwise maintain over-all sanitary conditions of facility
    • Maintain updated knowledge on school policies and procedures that affect this position
    • Handle confidential information with care
    • Maintain clean, safe, and attractive entrances
    • Move and arrange furniture and equipment
    • Clean and maintain light fixtures; replace light bulbs
    • Maintain security of buildings; turn out lights; lock doors and windows; maintain awareness of unauthorized persons on or about the premises
    • Replenish restroom and custodial cart supplies
    • Operate power cleaning equipment
    • Report any safety, sanitary, and fire hazards to lead custodian
    • In the absence of head custodian, be responsible for the operation of the heating plant and electrical, mechanical, and plumbing devices as directed by the building principal, and notify responsible persons in case of malfunction of the heating plant or related items
    • Assist with special events held at the building as time permits
    • Operate and maintain equipment as required; insure its safe and proper use; protect the District equipment and supplies against pilferage, loss, theft, and/or abuse
    • Shovel snow as necessary
    • Set up, take down, and put away cafeteria tables
    • Police and pick-up trash and litter adjacent to campus buildings
    • Maintain continued awareness of energy conservation and suggest methods and procedures for conservation
    • Comply with District rules and regulations Conduct all work in a safe manner as specified by WISHA regulations and district rules
    Qualifications
    • Must pass a criminal justice fingerprint/criminal history background check. Schedule your appointment here:
    • High School graduate or equivalent
    • Two years successful experience in a job-related field

    • Must complete required VectorSolutions courses (assigned to you after we recieve your application)
    Substitute placement is on an on-call, as needed basis as dictated by the daily needs of our member districts. Be advised, there is no guarantee of placement on any given day and no ongoing expectation of placement.
