    Job Description / Essential Elements:

    TITLE:
    Assistant Principal, Senior High School


    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    A. Credential
    California credential authorizing secondary administration service
    B. Education
    Sufficient to meet credential requirements
    C. Experience

    • Three years of successful teaching experience
    • Successful school administrative and/or supervisory experience, secondary level
    KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES;
    A. Knowledge of management principles and practices, including organization, supervision, and training
    B. Knowledge of secondary school curriculum
    C. Knowledge of the principles and procedures associated with curriculum development and implementation
    D. Knowledge of inventory control methods and procedures, including maintenance of inventory records
    E. Ability to exercise judgment and discretion applying and interpreting policies and procedures
    F. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with staff, students, parents, and the community
    G. Ability to administer financial and business matters pertaining to school operation
    H. Ability to supervise and evaluate the work of others
    I. Ability to coordinate the operation and supervision of all extra-curricular activities
    J. Ability to speak and write effectively


    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES
    A. In the absence of the Principal, the Assistant Principal serves in the Principal's place
    B. The Assistant Principal will be expected to plan and implement summer school
    C. The Assistant Principal is responsible for the management and supervision of the school's daily operation
    D


    Specific Areas of responsibility:

    • Curriculum Development Coordination of Instruction
    a. Design, implement and coordinate needs assessment of students
    b. Interpret District philosophy and policies to staff and assist staff in its formation of goals and objectives
    c. Coordinate the research activities of the staff
    d.

    Assist staff in the selection of instructional activities:
    the implementation of pupil personnel services; the development of programs of parental involvement; and the development of programs that make
    community resources an integral part of instruction
    e. Develop and maintain an in-service training program for total staff
    f. Coordinate the preparation of the master schedule, including assistance to departments in staff assignments

    School Operations:
    a. Approve the ordering and distribution of equipment and supplies
    b. Establish and supervise budget for specialized programs
    c. Approve the ordering of text and library books, magazines, and pamphlets
    d. Administer financial and business matters pertaining to the operation of the school
    e. Prepare and approve administrative reports to site, district, state, county, and city
    f. Assist Principal in the program of improvement of buildings and grounds
    g. Act upon all requests for Intra-District Transfer
    h. Serve as liaison with teacher training institution in placement and supervision of student teachers and field experience assignees
    i. Approve requests for use of building and equipment
    j. Direct data processing related to master schedule, grading, pre-registration, and attendance
    k. Maintain school inventories and equipment lists
    l.


    Assume responsibility for miscellaneous tasks:
    1. Assign auditorium seating
    2. Edit and approve daily bulletin
    3. Assign student lockers
    4. Direct bell schedule
    5. Maintain school calendar
    6. Direct emergency/disaster drills
    7. Check and sign accident reports
    8. Approve visitor passes
    9. Supervise campus security
    10. All other duties assigned

    *Valid California Administrative Services Credential
