    Job Description:


    The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine is seeking a Lab Tech II in Dr.

    Karina Serban's lab. The position will assist in conducting research within Dr.

    Serban's lab and utilizing and developing methods to measure various biological responses specific to emphysema, a respiratory disease caused by inherited genetic mutations or exposure to environmental agents like tobacco smoke.

    Preferred applicant will have a degree in biology or a related field and 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment and possess knowledge of theory and practice of scientific techniques and experimentation.

    Previous lab experience with molecular biology techniques, like PRC and western blotting are expected as well as experience with small animal handling / manipulation.

    Students and graduates of College of Veterinary Medicine interested in learning and studying small animal lung physiology are encouraged to apply.

    Essential Functions;

    Conduct research studies to support the scientific interests of the principal investigator. Utilize and develop methods to measure various biological responses. Genotyping and performing small animal exposure to research grade tobacco. Plan and conduct animal experiments outlined by the Principal Investigator. Maintenance of transgenic mouse breeding and experimental colonies. Keep up-to-date electronic or written files of all transgenic colonies.


    Conduct scientific experiments designed and outlined by the principal investigator to support the research interest of the laboratory, including western blotting, PCR and RNA, DNA and protein analysis.

    Keep up-to-date electronic or written notes of all experiments. Analyze data and help prepare scientific manuscripts and presentations.

    Order laboratory supplies and keep accurate records of ordering. Perform maintenance of lab equipment as directed by Principal investigator and ensure stock supplies and consumables are inventoried routinely. Assist with the storage and disposal of chemical and biological waste. Keep records of laboratory protocols and maintain a complete and accurate laboratory notebook.

    Train lab personnel in following University policies and safety regulations. Train less experienced personnel. Instruct students and technical staff in laboratory procedures. Attend weekly lab meetings.

    Other duties as assigned by supervisor.


    Expected Salary:
    $ $19.34 hourly


    Minimum Requirements:


    Associates degree in an appropriate area and two years of related experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of related experience.

    Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:


    Preferred applicant will have a degree in biology or a related field and 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment.
