- Perform real-time PCR and sequencing assays for various avian and mammalian pathogens
- Prepare samples for diagnostic testing
- Accession, result and finalize cases in the computer-based laboratory information management system (LIMS)
- Perform quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) tasks for molecular testing and virus isolation
- Train and mentor other molecular diagnostics technicians and students
- Participate in required trainings (onsite and offsite) and proficiency tests
- Assist in developing and implementing new molecular diagnostic assays
- Perform basic housekeeping duties in a BSL-2+ facility
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Bachelor's Degree and 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

The candidate will also be responsible for training and mentoring other technicians and contributing to Molecular Diagnostics research, including next generation sequencing projects. Oversee appropriate maintenance of laboratory equipment. Assist in developing and implementing new molecular diagnostic assays. In addition this position is expected to train students and perform other duties as assigned. Strong communication and computer skills are necessary. The laboratory management system is computer-based and is used to accession, result, and finalize case results.
