    Summary of position:
    We are looking for a sharp, ambitious, and enthusiastic Medical Assistant Cast Technician to join our team.

    The successful candidate is someone that is passionate about working in a care team model with responsibility that involves knowledge of anatomy and medical terms, cast application and removal, sterilization, and infection protocols.

    The right candidate will be able to work directly with orthopedic doctors in the treatment of bone and joint injuries.

    Having attention to details is a must.

    This position requires travel between the following locations:

    Quarry Area and RidgewoodWhat You'll Do:The Medical Assistant Cast Tech will assist in DME application, suture/staple removal and wound care.

    The Medical Assistnat Cast Tech is a trained member of the orthopaedic team who works with all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities concerning all surgical and non-surgical procedures.

    Order orthopaedic equipment and supplies.
    Take necessary measurements (i.e. grip strength, leg lengths).Remove staples, sutures, Steinman pins and K-wires.
    Change dressing and care for wounds.
    Apply, adjust and remove casts and splints.
    Draw up injections.
    Record patients blood pressure, pulse and weight.
    Phone and chart medication ordered by the physician.
    Assist Orthopaedic Surgeon in reduction of fractures.
    Write standard admitting and pre-op instructions for patients having surgery.
    Assist in making follow-up appointments and consultation appointments with other specialists for patients.
    Measure and fit patients for braces and other orthopaedic devices.
    Instruct patient in pre and post-operative care.
    Instruct patient in proper care of cast.
    Clean and stock cast and patient exam rooms.

    Ability to articulate descriptions of orthopaedic conditions based on advanced understanding of anatomical structures and their relationships with one another.

    Advanced knowledge of theory and application of skin, skeletal and manual traction.

    Expert knowledge of the proper application of aseptic techniques and setting up surgical fields and draping patients for surgical procedures.

    Adhere to established clinic/office policy and procedure directives.


    What You'll Need:
    High school diploma or GED. Nationally Registered Medical Assistant Certification required and must be kept current. At least a year full-time work experience as a Medical Assistant.

    Anatomy, physiology and orthopaedic terminology; fracture healing and complications; rupture, strain and sprain healing and complications; principles of aseptic techniques; environmental safety and precautions; application and use of orthopaedic equipment and supplies.

    Effective communication skills. Basic knowledge of the Windows XP system.
    Ability to travel between sites as needed/required.

    Other duties as assigned as necessary and may vary at times, as needed, by your immediate supervisor or as directed by the company.

    Requires prolonged standing, sitting, stretching, and some bending. Requires eye hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopies, telephone, and other equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate information to patients and team members. Normal but fast-paced work environment.
