PRIMARY PURPOSE
The Violin Instructor will provide high-quality violin instruction to students within the school's music program, fostering musical growth, discipline, and performance skills. This role supports the school's mission to promote the arts and cultural enrichment while helping students develop both technical proficiency and a lifelong appreciation for music.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Special Knowledge/Skills

• Teach individual and/or group violin lessons to students of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced performers.
• Instruct students in violin techniques, music theory, sight-reading, and performance preparation.
• Collaborate with the school's music department to integrate violin instruction into the broader curriculum.
• Prepare students for school concerts, recitals, competitions, and other performance opportunities.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, participation, and progress.
• Provide regular feedback to students and communicate progress to parents/guardians as needed.
• Support extracurricular music activities such as orchestra, ensemble groups, and special events.
• Ensure a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
• Ability to interpret state, TCSAAL and district policies and procedures and data
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, using proper grammar and vocabulary.
• Assumes professional responsibility for providing learning experiences in music and supervision of students in a supportive and positive climate that develops in each student the skills, attitudes, and knowledge to meet and exceed the TCSAAL and district requirements, using approved curricula, materials, and directives of the school.
• Mastery of playing the violin.

Experience

• One to three years demonstrated success in teaching and music/strings/orchestra experience
• Proficiency in violin performance and music theory.
• Prior teaching experience, preferably in a school or educational setting.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Assigning and evaluating lessons
• Preparing, administering and grading tests
• Critiquing oral presentations and performances
• Preparing report cards
• Upholding classroom discipline
• Meeting with parents to discuss student progress
• Maintaining classroom instruments
• Organizing student musical performances
• Preparing students to participate in music competitions

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Teaches individuals or groups instrumental or vocal music in a public charter school.
• Plans daily classroom work based on teaching outline prepared for course of study to meet curriculum requirements.
• Evaluates students' interests, aptitudes, temperament, and individual characteristics to determine suitable instrument for beginner.
• Sings or plays instrument to demonstrate musical scales, tones, and rhythm.
• Instructs students in music theory, harmony, score and sight reading, composition, music appreciation, and provides individual or group vocal and instrumental lessons using technical knowledge, aesthetic appreciation, and prescribed teaching techniques.
• Conducts group rehearsals and instructs and coaches members in their individual parts, in fundamentals of musicianship, and ensemble performance.
• Prepares for and adapts to academic changes as the need arises by providing instruction in a distance learning environment.
• Critiques performance to identify errors and reinforce correct techniques.
• Leads groups in regular and special performances for school program, concerts or other functions
• Use critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills and demonstrate self-management skills
• Apply safety standards.
• Meets with parents of student to resolve student problem.
• May accompany students on field trips to musical performances.
• May order, store, and inventory musical instruments, music, and supplies.
• May teach students with disabilities.
• Maintain an inventory and in proper working order all musical instruments and musical scores.
• Serve as a role model for students by cultivating personal musical talents and creating or performing music.
• Engage the learners in differentiated learning experiences for the range of skill levels and developmental needs found in the classroom, managing, when appropriate, multiple instructional
• activities simultaneously.
• Organize and supervise approved field trips to enhance classroom learning.
• Monitor the pacing of instruction and budget class time efficiently by providing clear directions,
• outlining expectations, and effectively bringing to closure instructional experiences.
• Submit lesson plans in the approved format to the Campus Director or designated supervisor as required and requested.
• Use effective presentation skills when employing direct instruction, including appropriate vocabulary and examples, clear and legible visuals, and articulate and audible speech.
• Use excellent written and oral English skills when communicating with students, parents, and colleagues.
• Provide a nurturing, supportive, and positive classroom climate that encourages student responsibility, using positive motivation, clear classroom routines, challenging instructional strategies, and effective classroom management techniques.
• Discipline students in a fair and consistent manner, using school approved procedures. Seek assistance of the parents and the Campus Director or designated supervisor as needed.
• Establish a professional rapport with students that earns their respect.
• Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, so as to create a cooperative relationship to support the child in the school.
• Assess and interpret the social needs, emotional needs and learning styles of students, using a variety of assessment techniques and data.
• Plan and adjust the teaching methods accordingly, requesting advice and assistance from specialists when appropriate.
• Assist with the preparation, monitoring, and implementation of Individualized Education Plans or selected students assigned to the class.
• Employ a variety of methods for students to demonstrate learning and accomplishments.
• Evaluate and grade homework, assignments, and tests in a timely fashion, providing feedback to the student on performance.
• Maintain records and provide evidence of growth and progress to parents and to students.
• Ensure the safety and health of all students, notifying the administration of any unsafe conditions, following established procedures.
• Create a stimulating, attractive, organized, functional, healthy, and safe classroom, with proper attention to the visual, acoustic, and thermal environments.
• Complete in a timely fashion all records and reports as required by law and regulation or requested by the Campus Director or designated supervisor. Maintain accurate attendance records.
• Account for all funds collected from students.
• Work cooperatively with adults assigned to the classroom (e.g., paraprofessionals, student teachers, parents, and volunteers), establishing clear expectations for roles and responsibilities.
• Recommend to the Campus Director or designated supervisor the supplies and equipment needed to support instruction and assist with ordering, following established procedures and budgetary allotment.
• Maintain in safe working condition and safely operate electronic and other equipment needed to carry out job functions and responsibilities.
• Protect confidentiality of records and information gained as part of exercising professional duties and use discretion in sharing such information within legal confines.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

ABOUT BOB HOPE SCHOOL
Bob Hope School is a growing open-enrollment public charter school (non-profit) providing parents a choice in their child's education. Bob Hope Elementary is a Montessori / Dual-Language campus. Instruction is conducted in a two-way immersion program, where teachers fluent in English teach ELA and those fluent in Spanish teach SLA and are supported by teacher aides with a strong command of both languages. Campuses are located in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Baytown, adn Cy-Fair, Texas. The Hughen Center, Inc. is the charter holder of Bob Hope School.
