    Description
    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
    • Forensic Scientist I, Seized Drugs- Undergoes training on laboratory tests, analyses, classifications, comparisons, and identifications of physical evidence from crime scenes with expertise in a specific area.
    • Forensic Scientist II, Seized Drugs- Performs routine forensic science work including conducting laboratory tests, analyses, and identifying physical evidence from crime scenes.
    • Forensic Scientist III, Seized Drugs- Conducts moderately complex forensic science work including laboratory analyses on physical evidence from crime scenes.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Develops communication skills to interact effectively with agencies and customers regarding sensitive information.
    • Learns to use the laboratory information management system (LIMS) for evidentiary documentation.
    • Prepares reports on analysis results and testifies as an expert witness in court.
    • Receives training on operating analytical instrumentation and conducting analysis of seized drug materials.
    • Maintains awareness of current research in the field.
    Qualifications GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIREMENTS:
    • Education- Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, chemical engineering, or forensic science with relevant coursework in chemistry.
    • Experience- Varies based on the level of Forensic Scientist position.
    • Licensure and/or Certification- Must possess a valid driver's license and relevant forensic analyst license.
    • Ability to coordinate evidence handling, recommend improvements, communicate findings effectively, conduct testing, and testify in court.
    Other qualifications include interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, presentation/communication skills, research/comprehension capabilities, analytical reasoning, technology proficiency, confidentiality, safety consciousness, and willingness to work after-hours or weekends occasionally.
    PHYSICAL and/or ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS:
    Environment: Office, Laboratory;
    Ambulatory skills, hand-eye coordination, visual acuity, color identification, speaking, hearing, weight transfer, and driving requirements.
