    Description

    The Safety Manager has the overall responsibility for helping lead, motivate, and foster a safety-conscious culture in the workplace to reduce incidents and injuries. He/she promotes the continuous improvement of facility safety and health systems to result in the reduction of incidents and illness, the assurance of regulatory compliance, and to make safe behaviors part of day-to-day thinking. The Safety Manager is expected to coordinate and manage day-to-day activities related to meeting all safety and health standards established by applicable regulations, as well as policies and procedures established internally. He/she will coordinate the required regulatory training. This position is ideal for a floor-oriented people person who knows safety, OSHA, etc., and enjoys working with people to make a safety program come alive. This person will have the ability to work with operations employees and managers on all aspects of a safety program. Hourly Safety Facilitator(s) report directly to the Safety Manager.

    Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

    • Responsible for regulatory assessments and efforts to maintain compliance with Federal, State, and local health and safety regulations.
    • Lead efforts to comply with regulations and develop measures to address workplace safety that could affect the health and well-being of employees.
    • Manage all aspects of company's Industrial Hygiene Program
    • Responsible for helping to lead, motivate, and foster a safety-conscious culture in the workplace to reduce incidents and injuries.
    • Conduct regular compliance audits and safety inspections of the facility and initiate corrective actions to eliminate hazards and promote a safe work environment.
    • Develop effective safety communications utilizing various multimedia methods.
    • Develop, implement, and administrate health/safety plans and training programs.
    • Lead the Performance Excellence Safety Pillar
    • Support departmental management in the investigation of accidents, determine causative factors, and implement corrective action to prevent recurrence.
    • Develop task-specific job safety analyses for work performed at the facility.
    • Maintain working knowledge of industry trends and practices regarding environmental health and safety.
    • Directly manages, coaches, develops, and provides work assignments to Hourly Safety Facilitator(s)

    General Requirements:

    • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with employees at all levels of the organization.
    • Bachelor's degree in health & safety or related Science is strongly preferred; practical experience will be given consideration as an alternative to a degree.
    • 5+ years related safety work experience in industrial manufacturing with a union work environment will be given preference.
    • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulations and industry requirements, preferable with general industry required OSHA 1910
    • Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
    • Background in insurance/workers' compensation matters
    • May travel occasionally (<10%)
    • Previous experience in paper and packaging industry desirable, but not required
