Position Description

• Prepare the area in which pipe will lay by directing trenching and grading
• Perform functions of a Laborer as required
• Assist equipment Operators in the placement of pipe
• Direct equipment Operators with hand signals
• Backfill around pipe using hand tools
• Set-up and work with pipe lasers and transits
• Locate and mark the correct position of pipe and fittings in an underground trench.
• Assemble and install valves, fitting and pipe and boxes composed of metal, PVC, ductile and concrete
• Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic solvent cement
• Test pipes for leakage.
• Measure and cut pipe
• Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and tampers
• Must have in-depth knowledge of various types of underground pipe
• Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems
• Dig trenches to desired or required depths, if necessary, by hand or using trenching equipment
• Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels
• Be able to understand written or verbal instructions and plans to complete project
• Reliable attendance- must have or arrange transport to job sites
• Follow directions from Foremen, Superintendents
• When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor

Position Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities

• Skilled tradesman who will be responsible for grading trenches, assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for High Density Polyurethane (HDPE) pipes, storm pipes, sanitation sewers, manholes, boxes and water mains.
• Will ensure ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for pipe placement and may also grade and level culverts, position pipe, seal joints and backfill.

Education and Experience:

• Minimum of five (3) years job-related experience

Physical Requirements:

• Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time. carry at least 30 pounds
• Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces
• Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
