- Prepare the area in which pipe will lay by directing trenching and grading
- Perform functions of a Laborer as required
- Assist equipment Operators in the placement of pipe
- Direct equipment Operators with hand signals
- Backfill around pipe using hand tools
- Set-up and work with pipe lasers and transits
- Locate and mark the correct position of pipe and fittings in an underground trench.
- Assemble and install valves, fitting and pipe and boxes composed of metal, PVC, ductile and concrete
- Join pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, and plastic solvent cement
- Test pipes for leakage.
- Measure and cut pipe
- Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, and tampers
- Must have in-depth knowledge of various types of underground pipe
- Install or repair sanitary or stormwater sewer structures or pipe systems
- Dig trenches to desired or required depths, if necessary, by hand or using trenching equipment
- Install or use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels
- Be able to understand written or verbal instructions and plans to complete project
- Reliable attendance- must have or arrange transport to job sites
- Follow directions from Foremen, Superintendents
- When not performing the above essential duties and responsibilities, may assist in other operations as designated by the supervisor
- Skilled tradesman who will be responsible for grading trenches, assembling, connecting, and constructing pipe systems for High Density Polyurethane (HDPE) pipes, storm pipes, sanitation sewers, manholes, boxes and water mains.
- Will ensure ground is prepped and trenches are dug out for pipe placement and may also grade and level culverts, position pipe, seal joints and backfill.
- Minimum of five (3) years job-related experience
- Able to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds at a time. carry at least 30 pounds
- Ability to squat, crawl, and work in confined spaces
- Be able to work in extreme weather conditions, hot and cold weather.
