    We are seeking a motivated and experienced Field Research Manager to lead and oversee field experiments at the PVAMU research farm and selected farms across various Texas counties.

    This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to agricultural research, soil health assessment, and greenhouse gas monitoring while working in collaboration with a dynamic team of researchers


    The Research Specialist I, under general supervision performs semi-skilled, technical support research work involving performance of assignments requiring modification and adaptation to routine procedures.

    Work is performed under general supervision with evaluation based on the successful completion of tasks assigned.

    This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.


    This position may pay more than the minimum proposed salary listed above, depending on experience and/or qualifications of the selected candidate.


    Responsibilities:

    • Manage and validate planting, soil amendments, and interventions in line with project leadership. Conduct regular visits to selected farms to collect research data and soil samples for soil health assessment, including soil carbon levels.
    • Install, maintain, and ensure the proper functioning of field equipment and sensors to support research activities. Collect, analyze, and manage in situ measurements, preparing datasets for sharing with investigators and collaborators, including students and faculty.
    • Lead field experiment activities on the PVAMU research farm and selected farms across multiple Texas counties. Monitor and quantify greenhouses gases using TraceGas analyzers while assisting undergraduate and graduate students and collaborating with Principal Investigators (Pls), Co-Principal Investigators (CO-Pls), and other college researchers.
    • Collaborate with colleagues in the college and participate in extension and outreach activities as required by the program.
    • Participates and assists in college-wide events, activities, committees and performs other duties as necessary.

    Required Education & Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree
    • Four years of related experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
    • Demonstrate a profound understanding of cropping systems and soil amendment practices, showcasing expertise in agricultural and soil science principles.
    • Exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills, enabling clear and concise interaction with team members, collaborators, and stakeholders.
    • Possess significant experience in fieldwork, laboratory analytical techniques, field research design, and successful project implementations.
    • Display a keen interest in collaborating within multidisciplinary teams, fostering cooperation and synergy to achieve research objectives.
    • Maintain a valid driver's license, facilitating travel and site visits as required for the role.

    Other Requirements:

    • Ability to lift moderately heavy objects.
    • Ability to exert heavy force.
    • Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Master's degree.
    • Proficiency in both verbal and written communication, with the ability to effectively engage with faculty, educators, and staff.
    • Demonstrated capability to efficiently organize tasks and prioritize work with minimal supervision.
    • Prior knowledge and experience in conducting field experiments, enhancing the capacity to contribute to research initiatives.
    • Familiarity and understanding of soil sample collection and analysis, providing valuable insights for the role.
