    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :


    The Office Support Specialist II under limited supervision is responsible for providing support to the disability examiner unit, which consists of Disability Examiners, Senior Disability Examiners, and Disability Hearing Officers.

    Prepares claims for disability determination specialists and disability hearings officers by developing claims that require requests for medical evidence and sending various forms to claimants.

    Prepares claims for the Disability Determination Specialists and Disability HearingOfficers to adjudicate claims at the initial, appellate, and continuing entitlementlevels for disability benefits filed under the Social Security Act based on federal regulations, standards, and guidelines; independently develops, analyzes andevaluates medical, psychiatric, vocational, and essential third-party evidence forconsistency, validity, and sufficiencyPerforms claim screening of Social Security disability claims to determine if thereare missing forms including but not limited to SSA-827, SSA-3367, SSA-3368,SSA-3369 and SSA-1696Conducts status checks of medical evidence of record and consultative examination reports.

    Documents actions taken on Social Security disability claimsFaxes documents to medical vendors.

    Ensures received faxes are filed appropriately and accuratelyPerforms various mail room duties including distributing mail to appropriate partiesGreets public and/or claimants and directs calls and incoming claimant questions to the appropriate party, ensuring claimant confidentialityCreates barcode sheets for various forms and letters.

    Scans various documentsinto the electronic disability folder.

    Review the orphan queue at different times ofthe day to associate documents to the correct electronic folderTracks the hours of each medical consultant weekly and provides information to the Senior Accountant for payment.

    Attends meetings and trainings and performs other duties as assigned to support the organizationPREFERENCES:
    Preference may be given to those with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook experience.
    Experience with answering phones and the ability to speak in a clear and concise manner with clients preferred.
    Preference may be given to those with exceptional customer service.
    Preference may be given to those who are able to work independently with minimal supervision.


    KNOWLEDGE :
    Proficiency in applying Social Security Administration rules and regulations using the SSA mainframe and associated software.
    Proficiency in using basic computer software and email.
    Keyboarding proficiency.
    Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    Excellent organizational and time management skills.
    Excellent customer service skills.
    Excellent decision-making skills.
    Ability to communicate effectively in potentially high-stress and confrontational situations.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:
    Associate's Degree (typically in Business)

    Experience: 0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Support Specialist I OR Education & ExperienceSubstitution: 2-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Business Office Communications) with acquired knowledge at the level of an Office Support Specialist I Certificates, Licenses, Registrations : None


    PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS :


    Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, driving an automobile, etc.

    Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.

    Non-exemptFormer State of Wyoming employees, who are rehired within 31 days from their previous employment, will be required to reimburse the State of Wyoming for all Vacation and Sick leave compensation received upon separation.
