    THE POSITION

    The Engineering District 12-0 of the Department of Transportation is currently in search of a full-time Engineering Technician to join their team. This exciting opportunity is specifically for a position within the Bridge Section of the Design Unit, offering a unique chance to work on a variety of engineering projects.

    The role of an Engineering Technician in this position involves entry-level technical work that is part of a comprehensive 12-month training program. Throughout this program, you will gain experience in various fields such as Design, Construction, Maintenance, Highway Safety, and Traffic. This hands-on learning approach is designed to equip you with the necessary skills to progress into a permanent career role within the organization.

    Upon successful completion of the training program, you will be assigned to the Design-Bridge Unit, where they will continue to apply their knowledge and expertise in a more specialized capacity. This position offers a great opportunity for growth and development within the Engineering District team, providing a solid foundation for a rewarding career in engineering.

    DESCRIPTION OF WORK

    The emphasis of duties will be as follows:
    • Assist in performing duties designed for the preparation of bridge and structural plans, maps, and similar drawings in the District's Bridge Unit.
    • Assist in performing a variety of technical drafting and detailing duties associated with the plotting of profiles, reducing survey notes, and estimating of bridge and structural material quantities.
    • Develop the ability to plots alignment of structures, topography and profiles, details abutment of structures, arches and retaining walls, plots and calculates drainage areas and waterway profiles, and draws structures to scale on plans including all quantities and title block information.
    • Assist in preparing and maintaining schedules of materials involved using charts to determine dimensional and weight factors. Places typical sections and cross sections and computes quantity of materials required.
    • Operate a CADD Station to perform all types of bridge structural and related drafting for contract or department force projects. Including sketches, plans for required reports and correcting and revising BRADD generated drawings.

    Work Schedule and Additional Information:
    • Full-time employment
    • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch. (based on operational considerations).
    • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time on Monday and Friday. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Uniontown.
    • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

    QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
    • An associate degree in surveying, drafting, designing, civil, or any other appropriate field of engineering technology.
    • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
