    Description

    The Certified Athletic Trainer, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail (SSCV) will be responsible for the sports medicine program at Ski and Snowboard Club Vail. The athletic trainer will provide Athletic Training Services to athletes under the direction of the team physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act. The athletic trainer will play a vital role in the communication and relationship between The Steadman Clinic, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail and the community. This individual will work with high-impact, high-velocity strength/power and endurance sports for athletes ranging in ages from 6-30 yrs. old. This individual will be a vital team member of the SSCV Human Performance Staff. Additional job responsibilities will include; athletic training coverage as needed and assigned by the director of athletic training for the outreach program, sports medicine lecturing and education to athletes and the ski community, and development and implementing policies/procedures/protocols.

    This role includes early morning, evening and weekend coverage for Ski and Snowboard Club Vail and community outreach coverage year-round, including 24/7 call for traveling athletes. Position includes coverage of on-hill practices, dry land practices, scheduled treatment and injury evaluation, and travel as needed. Position includes additional sports medicine/first aid/marketing event coverage as assigned by director of athletic training.

    The Certified Athletic Trainer, Ski and Snowboard Club Vail is a mid to high-range role with the expectation of operating with advanced level skills and knowledge, independent execution, execution of complex tasks, with high impact on athlete/patient care.

    Location: Vail - with travel to training and race locations.

    Classification: Full time, Year Round, Exempt

    Job Details (this is a summary of responsibilities, not meant to be all inclusive):

    On-Hill Practice/Event and Dry-Land Coverage:

    • Provide daily athletic training services at on-hill practices/events, events/practices (mountain biking) and dry-land practices as needed.
    • Provide emergency care and first aid on-hill and other venues.
    • Documentation of all injuries, treatments, return to play progressions, referrals, rehabilitation, health records and communication.
    • Research data collection and project implementation.
    • Injury prevention, management, rehabilitation and treatment.
    • Return to snow progression and implementation
    • Communicate and manage emergency action plan with parents, ski patrol, medical director, and SSCV staff and administers (HIPPA compliant) in emergency medical situations.
    • Manage return to play progression for injuries and concussions.
    • Comply with policies and procedures.
    • Manage and document injury/illness referrals.
    • Organizing and maintaining travel medical kits and trauma kits.
    Injury, Treatment and Rehabilitation Clinic:
    • Provide injury evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation to athletes during a scheduled clinic at SSCV facilities or during travel.
    • Utilize electronic medical records for proper and timely documentation of all injuries and treatments.
    • Provide patient-centered care to athletes/participants according to all policies and procedures written in the athletic training handbook and organizers policies and procedures.
    • Effective and timely communication with other staff athletic trainers, physical therapist, patient's families, school and organizations regarding injuries and treatments
    • Create and implement comprehensive and individualized return to play programs using a multidisciplinary team approach.
    • Provide first aid and emergency care and athletic training services.
    • Manage participant/athlete referrals.
    • Concussion management program including, education, prevention program, evaluation, documentation, referrals, management, protocol updates, return to play progression and communication.
    • Documentation and communication of all injuries, treatments, return to play progressions, referrals, rehabilitation, health records and communication.
    • Demonstrate and documenting value of athletic training position thru revenue tracking and reimbursement.
    • Supply and budget management.
    • Injury screening and prevention program using a multidisciplinary team approach.
    Community Outreach and Marketing:
    • Injury/sports medicine education and lecturing to SSCV community.
    • Positively represent The Steadman Clinic at all events and interaction with SSCV and skiing community.
    • Collaboration of the design and implementation of sports medicine program with the assistance of the medical director(s), athletic training director and human performance director.
    • Sports medicine education and program/policies/procedure education to the SSCV staff during the "SSCV staff education week" each October.
    Administrative duties:
    • Organizing and assisting with pre-participation physicals.
    • Maintaining and organizing documentation related to past medical history, pre-participation physicals, emergency contacts, and injury tracking software.
    • Injury reporting/data collection both internally and externally (USSA) using appropriate communication chain, and in compliance with national and international regulations.
    • Create and maintain emergency action plans at all events (local, national, international) for SSCV athletes and staff with assistance from the medical director(s) and SSCV staff.
    • Organize and lead interdisciplinary team meetings concentrating on individualized health, safety, and progression of athletes.
    • Create safe and inclusive environments for athletes.
    Requirements
    • Master's degree in athletic training or related field, highly preferred.
    • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, in good standing.
    • Current Colorado state licensed athletic trainer, valid with DORA, or the ability to obtain license prior to start date.
    • CPR/BLS for healthcare provider.
    • Advanced skiing/snowboard ability, including adequate gear required for the role.
    • Current valid US passport for international travel, or the ability to obtain prior to start date.
    • SafeSport Certification (Core Training and Health Professional)
    • Experience in lecturing/teaching.
    • Experience with concussion management and maintaining compliance to related regulations.
    • Experience working and managing high-injury risk athletes.
    • FMS Level-1 and NASM-PES or NSCA-CSCS, highly preferred.
    • EMT certification, highly preferred.
    • Mental Health First Aid
    • Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients and an excellent and collegial working relationship with other Steadman Clinic, Steadman-Philippon Research Institute, and hospital personnel in involved in delivering patient care.
    • Previous experience working with elite athletes preferred.
