    General Purpose Under general supervision, provides responsive and courteous police services in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, generally consisting of routine patrol, interventions, assistance, investigations and traffic regulation duties.

The local crime rate is low, which permits our peacekeepers time to engage in true, face-to-face community policing. We furnish each of our officers with approximately $10,000 worth of personal equipment, ranging from firearms to boots.

    Our Patrol fleet is second to none in Texas for being well-equipped, maintained, and "tricked out" for maximum officer safety.

    The potential of a life-changing career is not far away Primary Duties and ResponsibilitiesPreserves the peace of the community through mediation, investigation, intervention, assistance, documentation, and arrest; utilizes all lawful means to improve the quality of life by reducing the fear and incidence of crime, recognizing and resolving problems, and meeting the public safety needs of the Citizens of Corinth.

    Patrols the City to respond to citizens' requests for assistance, enforce traffic regulations, detect crime, apprehend violators, and assure public safety.

    Patrols and provides security for assigned areas, looking for unusual or suspicious activities or persons; responds to emergency and non-emergency calls for service; interrogates and communicates with victims, witnesses and suspects in cases; provides scene security and protection for Fire and Medical personnel.

    Enforces local, state and Federal laws, and enforces compliance with local regulations and ordinances, according to Department policies, procedures and regulations.

    Investigates crimes and accidents; secures and processes crime and accident scenes, and identifies and collects evidence within scope of authority.

    Arrests law violators; transports and processes suspects, victims and prisoners.
    Completes detailed reports and required paperwork.
    Maintains vehicle and equipment according to Department standards.
    Represents the City Police at court hearings; prepares reports and testifies in court cases.

    Assists and coordinates with other emergency services personnel, outside organizations and businesses, and Federal, state and local law enforcement organizations.

    Presents education and information programs for community and school awareness projects; teaches and counsels residents on law enforcement activities and referral resources.

    Performs specialized functions in areas of expertise, including training, K-9, SWAT, event security, computer systems, and other special enforcement and investigative teams.

    Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the Department by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.

    Cooperates with co-workers professionally to accomplish work efficiently and effectively. Has regular, predictable attendance; attendance is a factor in continued employment with the City.
    Performs other duties as assigned or required.


    Minimum QualificationsAge:
    Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time of the written exam

    Citizenship:
    Applicant must be a United States citizen

    Education:
    Applicants must possess a High School diploma or General Equivalency diploma

    Certification:
    Currently certified from TCOLE; or a current peace officer in another state with the ability to successfully challenge and pass the TCOLE exam

    Drivers License:
    Applicants must possess a valid driver license prior to employment. (Must obtain Texas Class C driver license within 30 days of hire per State law.)

    Mental Condition:
    All applicants must be able to pass a written entry exam, board interview, and psychological examination

    Physical Condition:
    All applicants must pass a physical (medical) examination, drug screen, and physical ability test


    Vision:

    Must possess 20/20 vision, either corrected or uncorrected or uncorrected in each eye, unless vision is corrected by the use of contact lenses which must be worn on duty and/or during all law enforcement related activities.

    Must be free of dichromatic color blindness, night blindness and any other visual deficiencies or limitations.


    Hearing:
    Must pass a hearing test

    Criminal Record:
    No convictions for criminal offense above Class C Misdemeanor.
    Pre-employment Polygraph, Psychological and Medical/Physical examination required.


    Required Knowledge of:
    City policies and procedures.
    City, county, state and Federal laws, regulations, codes and ordinances.
    Texas criminal justice and court systems, and the principles of criminal justice records management.
    Law enforcement methods, practices, and procedures.

    Basic criminal law on the apprehension, arrest, and custody of persons committing misdemeanors and felonies, including preservation and presentation of evidence in traffic and criminal cases.

    Basic criminal law on the rules of evidence, probable cause, use of force, and search and seizure.
    Investigative and interrogative procedures, and protocols for observation of critical details.
    Local community issues and regional community resources available to citizens.
    Geography, roads, and landmarks of City and surrounding areas.
    Police Department General Orders, policies and procedures.
    Customer service standards and protocols.


    Required Skill in:
    Exercising controlled discretion in situations requiring diplomacy, fairness, and sound judgment.
    Recognizing suspicious behavior patterns, mediating difficult situations, and using effective arrest & control techniques.
    Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
    Remaining alert at all times and reacting quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
    Operating motor vehicles and special police equipment during emergency situations. Interpreting laws and regulations, making decisions, maintaining composure, and working effectively under stressful conditions and emergency situations.
    Evaluating facts and evidence, drawing logical conclusions and making proper recommendations.

    Care, maintenance and safe operation of a variety of firearms, impact weapons, chemical agents, and other law enforcement tools and equipment.

    Operating a personal computer utilizing a variety of business software.
    Effective communication, both verbal and written.


    Physical Demands / Work Environment:

    Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to inclement weather; required to physically restrain persons; subject to extended periods of intense concentration in review of crime scenes, special investigations and law enforcement report preparation.

    Must be able to work in uniform during weekdays, weekends, and holidays on any assigned shift.
    Must maintain a level of physical fitness to meet Department standards.

    Applicant must be free of dichromatic color blindness, night blindness, and any other serious vision deficiencies or limitationspass a hearing testPolice Hiring Disqualifiers Following is a listing of factors that may disqualify a potential applicant from being hired as a Corinth police officer permanently or for a specified period of time.

    These causes for disqualification are in accordance with provisions of the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement peace officer standards and pertinent state statutes.

    The causes include but are not limited to the below: 1. Applicant is not a citizen of the United States. The Applicant will be considered ineligible until citizenship is lawfully obtained. 2.

    Applicant has been convicted of or admitted to conduct that constitutes a class A or class B misdemeanor under the state penal code or the equivalent under federal law, to include violations of the uniform code of military justice, within the past ten years.

    This will result in a temporary rejection until that time period has passed.

    Crimes involving moral turpitude may result in permanent disqualification and will be considered on a case by case basis with consideration of circumstances and time elapsed since the crime occurred.

    Crimes of moral turpitude are often defined as "conduct contrary to community standards of justice, honesty, and good morals." 3.

    Applicant has been convicted or admitted to conduct which constitutes a felony under state or federal law, including the uniform code of military justice.

    This will result in a permanent disqualification.


    Note:

    A person is considered convicted of a felony or misdemeanor crime involving moral turpitude if a court enters a guilty adjudication against the person or the plea of guilty is entered by the person under the laws of this state or another state or the United States, regardless of whether:The sentence is subsequently probated and the person is discharged from probation or community supervision;Deferred adjudication is granted;The accusation, complaint, information, or indictment against the person is dismissed;The person is released from all penalties and disabilities resulting from the offense;The person is pardoned for the offense, unless the pardon is granted expressly for subsequent proof of innocence.?4.

    Applicant will be considered ineligible for employment while charges are pending for any criminal offense.? 5.

    Applicant has a conviction for driving under the influence (DWI or DUI) at any time within the past 10 years.

    This will result in a temporary disqualification until the ten-year time period has passed. 6. Applicant has failed to demonstrate the ability to write, read, and fluently speak the English language. The applicant will be ineligible until the deficiency is corrected. 7. Applicant is unable to perform the essential functions of the position sought, with or without reasonable accommodation. The applicant will be ineligible until he/she demonstrates the ability to perform the essential job functions. 8. The applicant is unable to obtain a valid vehicle operator's license as mandated by state law. The applicant will be considered ineligible until he/she obtains a valid Texas driver's license. 9.

    The applicant has used illegal substances as indicated in the following guidelines:

    Applicants will be temporarily disqualified when they have been found to have illegally used marijuana within the past two years.

    Marijuana use will be evaluated on a case to case basis.

    Applicants found to have engaged in conduct which constitutes abuse of legally obtained medication or illegal use of the prescription medication of another person may be temporarily or permanently disqualified, depending upon the circumstances of the abuse.

    Applicants will be disqualified when it is determined that they have engaged in conduct which constitutes felony-level use of illicit substances as defined in Texas statutes.

    Such instances will be evaluated on a case by case basis.10.

    Applicants will be temporarily disqualified if they have more than three traffic events (moving violation tickets or at-fault accidents) in the preceding two years or a reckless driving conviction in the preceding five years.

    Applicants whose driving behavior indicates incompatibility with the operation of emergency vehicles and presents potential liability to the City will be temporarily disqualified.

    Applicants who have been dismissed or resigned in lieu of dismissal from any employment for inefficiency, delinquency, or misconduct will be disqualified.
