- Perform dental cleanings (prophylaxis), scaling and root planing, and periodontal maintenance
- Take and process dental radiographs in accordance with state regulations
- Conduct oral health assessments, periodontal charting, and risk assessments
- Apply preventive agents including fluoride varnish and sealants
- Assist in early detection of oral disease and communicate findings to the dentist
- Educate patients on proper oral hygiene techniques, nutrition, and preventive care
- Provide age-appropriate education to pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients
- Support a welcoming, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care environment
- Work closely with dentists, dental assistants, and other healthcare team members
- Participate in integrated care efforts with medical and behavioral health staff as appropriate
- Support community outreach, school-based programs, and health education initiatives
- Accurately document clinical findings and services in the electronic dental record (EDR)
- Adhere to infection control, sterilization, and OSHA protocols
- Comply with HRSA, FQHC, and North Carolina Dental Practice Act requirements
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, chart reviews, and audits
- Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Dental Hygiene from an accredited program
- Current North Carolina Dental Hygienist license (or eligibility)
- CPR/BLS certification
- Experience working with diverse patient populations or willingness to do so
- Experience in an FQHC, community health center, or public health setting
- Experience serving Medicaid, uninsured, or rural populations
- Local anesthesia certification (if applicable under NC regulations)
- Bilingual skills (Spanish preferred)
- Familiarity with electronic dental records
