    Department Summary

    Strategy, Planning, and Operations establishes the vision for building partnerships and stakeholder engagement efforts with students, faculty, and staff on behalf of the IT organization. This team aligns and manages the IT roadmap, portfolio, programs, and projects with university priorities; and enables an integrated and collaborative approach to organizational change management and communication efforts to meet the needs of the university while recognizing the unique requirements of UCLA's different schools and units. The Strategy, Planning, and Operations Office also manages organizational initiatives and efforts, including general administrative functions, internal communications, talent management, and culture development.
    Position Summary

    The IT Talent Development Lead will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction and operational excellence of ITS at UCLA. The Lead will be entrusted with overseeing the IT training development strategy and planning, ensuring alignment of ITS' goals with the UCLA Administration and the university at large. This professional will spearhead a culture of learning by cultivating an environment that promotes growth, collaboration, and continuous improvement. They will directly manage the Learning & Development Specialist, guiding the assessment of development needs and the creation and delivery of tailored upskilling programs within the IT workforce. In their role, the Lead will supervise the design, creation, and implementation of the ITS Academy, collaborating closely with various subject matter experts throughout the university. The Lead will also support the Culture Development strategy for ITS and how this will be threaded throughout the organization, such as inclusion of values in JDs, onboarding, performance management, rewards, training and development. The IT Talent Development Lead will initiate, drive, and manage various IT talent development initiatives, employing data-driven strategies to assess, plan, and implement improvements and change management procedures. The Lead will be instrumental in fostering Employee Resource Groups and nurturing diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and a sense of communal achievement. In addition to their strategic roles, the Lead will have a hands-on approach in developing and delivering specific training and development programs, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic objectives. They will facilitate the design and execution of learning paths, enabling the IT staff to advance their skills and careers in sync with the evolving demands of the technology sector. The IT Talent Development Lead will positively impact UCLA's operations and culture by enabling UCLA IT to attract, retain, and develop its staff in service of the institution's academic, research and service mission. This team member will advance the University's mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA's vision while modeling UCLA's culture and values.

    Salary & Compensation

    *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common.     Qualifications

  • Five years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: customer service, information technology, IT service management, IT project management, or related field. (Required)
  • Significant experience developing and implementing learning and development curricula and/or training programs for technical and non-technical employees. (Required)
  • Experience participating in activities to advance an inclusive environment that values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging. (Required)
  • Seven or more years Experience working in one or more of the following fields: information technology, computer science, management, higher education, higher education auxiliary services, technology operations services. (Preferred)
  • Two or more years Experience leading teams in a management or leadership role, particularly in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment. (Preferred)
  • Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university. (Preferred)
  • Expertise in organizational development theories and practices, capable of developing strategies that enhance alignment between departmental goals and the university's overarching objectives. (Required)
  • Strong analytical abilities and problem-solving skills to identify performance gaps, operational challenges, and conceptualize strategic solutions that enhance departmental performance. (Required)
  • Expertise in performance management systems, creating frameworks that accurately measure individual and team performance against established goals and competencies. (Required)
  • Proficiency in utilizing analytics and data-driven approaches to inform decision-making, assess program effectiveness, and identify areas for strategic improvement. (Required)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate complex technical ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. Can relay technical information to audiences of technical and non-technical stakeholders. (Required)
  • Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with a diverse community of colleagues including team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required)
  • Advanced organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and deliver concurrent projects to various stakeholder types. Experience working in a project-based environment using leading project management practices including schedule management, status reporting, and communication of (Required)
  • Advanced problem-solving skills; ability to uncover root of difficult problems and scope solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines as well as awareness of vision and strategy. Seeks information from multiple and diverse sources to inform solutions. (Required)

  • Special Conditions for Employment
    • This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement).

      The anticipated pay range for this position is $95,900 - $159,000, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
