Description

Under immediate supervision, performs responsible clerical and routine technical work in the operation of a municipal storeroom; does related work as required.

Examples of Duties

Assistant to the Warehouse supervisor.
Interviews salepersons and vendors.
Works with Purchasing Department, secures prices and availability information.
Checks quantity and quality of items received against invoices and reports discrepancies.
Obtains estimates and assist in paying bills.
Unpacks and stores items.
Issues stocks and tools to various individuals.
Distributes supplies to departments.
Performs office clerical duties related to storeroom operation.
Takes periodic and special inventories.
Cleans warehouse and maintains warehouse grounds.
Picks up parts and supplies at vendors.
Picks up surplus items as needed and group items as needed and group items for sale.
Loads and unloads truck orders.
Clean vehicles assigned to the warehouse.

Typical Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate degree in business related field and considerable experience as a warehouse clerk, inventory and acquisition of parts and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Some knowledge of modern storeroom and inventory practices; ability to count and inspect a variety of materials accurately and thoroughly; ability to drive light automotive equipment; ability to lift articles of medium weight. Must have good customer service skills.

Supplemental Information

Must have a valid North Carolina Driver's license and be able to operate a fork lift and pallet jacks.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: (Reasonable accommodations may substitute for physical requirements listed): Must be able to lift or move up to 50lbs or more and maneuver up to 1 mile. Must be able to operate light and medium equipment; work with large and small objects. This position will work indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to changing weather, adverse smells and sights, loud sounds and repetitive operations.
