What are the duties of a Certified Transportation Driver/Youth Counselor Technician?
These positions will provide transportation and supervision for juveniles to and from required destinations such as court hearings, detention centers, youth development centers, residential placement, medical appointments, and other required destinations.
Staff will provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, mediation or Restraint Control Defense Tactic (RCDT) as needed and in accordance with Division policy.
Report to appropriate staff upon return from destination. Ability to assess youth behavior, report the progress of youth, and communicate information to managers.
Conduct searches of juveniles for contraband prior to and after each transport trip to prevent possible escapes or passing of contraband.
Apply mechanical restraints to juveniles prior to secure transports according to policy and training; Contact appropriate staff upon arrival at destination for assistance to prevent escapes; De-escalate situations using methods approved via policy.
Staff will maintain required reports of activities relating to the transportation and oversight of the custodial supervision of each juvenile that is served.
Must demonstrate observation and report writing skills. Position must maintain written and electronic records related to the behavior and security of youth under their supervision.Inspect vehicles regularly and maintain appropriate maintenance (preventative service and inspection schedule) of vehicle fleet. Maintain transport documents for all trips made. Monitor gas, oil and tires daily; contact Direct Supervisor for authorization for repairs, if necessary.
Conduct searches of vehicle for contraband prior to and after each transport trip to prevent possible escapes or passing of contraband.
Other duties may include assisting with curfew checks, drug screens, Electronic Monitoring alerts, provide safety and security in districts as needed and other duties as authorized by management.
Selected applicant must attend and successfully complete Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program within a year of employment and maintain Criminal Justice Certification.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.
