    Summary of Position: The Student Success Coach position, funded through the MDE-OST grant, is a valuable opportunity within Ferris State University's work-study program. The successful candidate will work closely with K-12 students at partner institutions during the summer semester, aiming to enhance academic achievement, foster personal growth, and promote holistic student success. This position offers a unique opportunity for motivated individuals to make a meaningful impact on the academic and personal development of K-12 students while gaining valuable experience in education, youth development, and community engagement. This position requires a current driver's license. Work hours will vary. Student Success Coaches will work on average 20-25 hours per week.


    Position Requirements: - A valid drivers license is REQUIRED.

    • Student success coaches will be expected to travel between campus and event locations with a university vehicle.
    • Propose and develop innovative programs for K through 12 youth that enable career discovery, increase college access, and foster interest in STEM disciplines.
    • Additional projects related to student engagement as assigned.
    • Meet regularly with program participants to review academic progress and overall wellbeing and development.

    Essential Duties/Responsibilities:


    Student Mentorship: Provide individualized support and guidance to K-12 students, serving as a mentor and advocate for their academic and personal development.


    Academic Support: Assist students with homework, academic enrichment activities, and skill-building exercises to reinforce learning and promote academic success.


    Program Implementation: Collaborate with program coordinators and other staff members to implement engaging and effective activities aligned with the goals of the Michigan Department of Education Out-of-School Time grant.


    Partner and Student Engagement: Build positive relationships with students and partner institutions, to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.


    Documentation and Reporting: As directed, maintain accurate records of student interactions, program activities, and outcomes.


    Professional Development: Participate in training sessions, workshops, and team meetings to enhance skills, share best practices, and stay updated on relevant research and trends in student success coaching.


    Cultural Competency: Demonstrate sensitivity to the diverse backgrounds, experiences, and needs of students, fostering a welcoming and inclusive space for learning and growth.
