We're seeking a Manager of Power Generation Engineering to lead the engineering team responsible for ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of OPPD's North Omaha Station and all Peaking Units, while also supporting the broader generation fleet, including owned solar, wind, and storage resources. This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of technical excellence, operational strategy, and people development.
In this role, you will guide a team of system engineers who support plant operations, troubleshoot complex equipment issues, analyze system performance, and drive long-term reliability improvements. You'll oversee the development and execution of multi-year engineering plans, lead the implementation of OPPD's Equipment Reliability Program, and ensure that critical systems are monitored, maintained, and optimized. You'll also play a key role in budget planning, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional collaboration across Utility Operations.

You'll foster a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and technical rigor while helping shape the future of OPPD's generation strategy.

- Build and maintain a competent/capable team of staff in alignment with OPPD's practices.
- Effectively apply OPPD's Managerial Leadership Practices (MLPs) (i.e.: Management Accountabilities, Talent Inventory, Succession Planning, Organizational Performance Planning, Clarity Building, etc.) for assigned staff.
- Develop and implement Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for all direct reports targeting: specific performance gaps necessary to fulfill the work of the Role, any currently assigned Key Accountabilities (KAs), or any special assignments designed to enhance the effectiveness of Role, Department, Division, etc. (Completed Annually)
- Oversee the development and implementation of Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for Skip-level-Reports (SLRs)).Ensure designed plans prepare the individual to successfully assume work/role(s) as a direct report either within organizational scope or across departmental, divisional, or BU lines. (As Required)
- Develop and maintain a set of staff performance metrics.
Reinforce, monitor and hold subordinate leaders accountable for the effective application of OPPD's Manager Leadership Practices.
Accountable to develop and implement plans and programs (1-4 years in scope) to achieve OPPD and Utility Operations strategic objectives and to deliver desired outputs/assigned KAs of the Engineering Services division.
- Lead the design, integration and ownership of all end-to-end processes, policies, and practices utilized within assigned scope of control. Specifically, the continued build out and implementation Equipment Reliability Program in collaboration with UO stakeholders (e.g. Integrated Work Management, Asset Management). This includes a system health-monitoring program, including identification of critical systems or components required for reliable plant operation, to assist with scoping, prioritizing, scheduling and completing preventive maintenance in accordance with the applicable EPRI guidance.
- Establish and execute an on-going prioritization process for team consistent with OPPD's business objectives, policies, metrics, and strategies.
- Engage with/Support subordinate teams / team members to influence decisions and outcome alignment with strategic direction. (As Needed/Required)
- Develop and maintain a set performance metrics (Past vs. Present and Predictive). Monitor, adjust as needed, track, and develop executive reporting and analysis as scheduled.
- Assign primary and secondary system engineers based upon individual areas of expertise and BU needs to track system operating trends and corrective actions within the four-year planning horizon. Provide input for ten-year planning in support of long term asset management objectives.
- Establish effective cross-training programs to ensure adequate engineering support at each generating station for key systems (e.g. Distributed Control Systems, integrated plant and system operations/design bases).
- Support other BU groups as needed to design and implement design changes to the generating stations, including close out activities.
- Manage the engineering support for emergent operational and maintenance issues at the fossil and owned renewable generating units.
- Arrange and implement professional development of staff, including succession planning
Qualifications
Required:
- A minimum of seven (7) years of engineering-related experience at or in support of a power generating facility. A Master's degree in Engineering or Business may be used in lieu of 1 year of experience.
- A Bachelor of Science degree or higher in an Engineering discipline. An accredited engineering Master's degree may be considered in lieu of two years of work experience.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of Nebraska or ability to obtain licensure within 1 year of assignment.
- Demonstrated experience leading and mentoring a multi-disciplinary team.
- Must be able to communicate effectively to all site stakeholders, regulators, and senior leadership.
- Must be able to plan work, allocate resources, direct activities, and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously to effectively optimize resource utilization.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Desired:
- Any combination of steam turbine (coal, natural gas, nuclear) power plant, dual fuel simple cycle combustion turbine, reciprocating engine, or renewable (storage, photovoltaic solar, wind) generation technology experience
- An advanced degree in Engineering, Business Administration or Management
- Familiarity in equipment reliability programs, continuous improvement processes and LEAN concepts
Time Demands
- This position is considered a ¿non-essential position¿ however; this position may be required to report to work to support the restoration of normal business operations.
- Maintain regular and predictable attendance in alignment with Departmental policy.
- Must be available for overtime work and call-outs as required to ensure continuance of efficient operation.
- Must maintain 24-hour availability for technical and professional assistance, emergency response, and directing remedial action in response to such emergencies.
- Frequent travel between OPPD generation assets and business locations will be required. Primary work location will be North Omaha Station and other northern OPPD territory generation sites.
Work Environment
Office: Work will be performed in a modern office environment amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, and noises.
Field: Work will be performed outside in a wide variety of weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, cold, wind, etc.), terrain, and other natural environmental hazards as well as pollen and other airborne allergens.
Generation Plant: Work will be performed inside with exposure to industrial building conditions and will be exposed to extreme temperatures, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation and exposure to sounds. Noise levels may require shouting in order to be heard.
Will work around energies high voltage electrical equipment, in construction areas that present many physical hazards, and job sites where Ammonia is utilized.
Physical Demands
Must have the ability to: work under stressful situations; operate a computer and other office equipment; sit at a desk for more than one hour at a time; move about the company and interact with all levels of the Company. Be able to lift 25 lbs. from floor to waist, and complete driving activities in support of positional duties.
