    Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Pharmaceutical Oral Solid Dosage (OSD) Scientist to join our Life Sciences business at our Wilmington Research Center in Delaware.

    This position will report to the Global OSD Leader.

    The Staff Scientist is an experienced technical professional supporting Ashland's Pharma OSD products and applications in North America. They are responsible for working on new product development and its characterization and identifying new areas for product application.

    The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:


    • Lead the evaluation of Ashland's innovative platform technologies in pharmaceutical applications such as solubility and permeability enhancement, novel tableting excipients, and film coating.
    • Demonstrates in-depth knowledge/expertise in solubility and permeation enhancement techniques such as amorphous solid dispersions, lipid-based systems, permeation enhancers, surfactants, drug complexes, etc
    • Experienced in developing oral solid dose products, manufacturing, and scale-up, including an operational understanding of wet and dry granulation equipment, hot melt extrusion, spray-drying, complexation techniques, tablet presses, encapsulation technology, etc.
    • Contribute to creative application approaches utilizing Ashland's excipients by generating ideas and concepts to meet current and anticipated customer needs
    • Design and execute research activities, technical presentations, posters, and papers for internal and external use at customer sites, scientific conferences, and trade shows.
    • Visit customers to expand opportunities for pharma excipients, resolve customer technical and scale-up issues, and provide appropriate technical seminars supporting commercial initiatives.
    To be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:


    • M.S., or Ph.
    D. in a relevant discipline such as pharmaceutical sciences, chemical engineering, chemistry, or Life Sciences is required.

    • 5-10 years prior experience in pharmaceutical formulation and technical service or product development
    • Hands-on expertise with formulating tablets, capsules, and/or other oral dosage forms with experience in lab to pilot-scale blending, granulation, tableting, coating, and similar processes.
    • Advanced competency in science-based innovation.
    • Good interpersonal and presentation skills to share development work within the organization and with customers.
    • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Ability to travel occasionally (about 20-30%) for customer meetings or plant trials.
    • Be authorized to work in the United States
    The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:


    • Working understanding of oral delivery of protein, peptides, and oligonucleotides
    • Experience working within multicultural and multifunctional teams
    • Some supervisory experience and demonstrated awareness of safety issues
    • Strong written, oral presentation, organizational and problem-solving skills
    • Working knowledge of Design of Experiments (DOE), Microsoft Office Suite, and statistical
