    Responsibilities:

    RNs in the ASC PreOp department are accountable for delivering high-quality, age-specific patient care in assigned units. They must possess knowledge and skills necessary to meet nursing standards specified in the Texas Nurse Practice Act, with supervision.

    The following responsibilities are categorized by RN level:

    RN I (ASC)

    • Provides nursing care to patients in an assigned unit.
    • Recognizes when assistance is needed and seeks appropriate resources.
    • Practice is characterized by a balance of dependent and interdependent decision making.
    • Focus is on expanding knowledge and skills for specialty area.

    RN II (ASC)

    • Demonstrate proficiency in delivering high-quality, age-specific patient care.
    • Develop effective working relationships with all members of the ASC and Clinic.
    • Communicates information effectively, appropriately, and with courtesy regarding patient conditions to those who require the information.
    • Perform safe and competent nursing care according to organization's policy & procedures and or ASPAN/AORN/SGNA standards.

    RN III (ASC)

    • Demonstrate proficiency in delivering high-quality, age-specific patient care.
    • Develop effective working relationships with all members of the ASC and Clinic.
    • Communicates information effectively, appropriately, and with courtesy regarding patient conditions to those who require the information.
    • Perform safe and competent pre-operative nursing care according to organization's policy & procedures, ASPAN/AORN/SGNA standards.
    • Must work in 2 or more units within department.
    • Will be responsible for precepting new employees and assuming charge role when needed.
    • Assists with education initiatives.
    • Contributes to process improvement and quality by auditing/tracking one Key Performance Indicator.

    RN IV (ASC)

    • Demonstrate proficiency in delivering high-quality, age-specific patient care.
    • Develop effective working relationships with all members of the ASC and Clinic.
    • Communicates information effectively, appropriately, and with courtesy regarding patient conditions to those who require the information.
    • Perform safe and competent pre-operative nursing care according to organization's policy & procedures.
    • Perform safe and competent endoscopy room nursing care according to ASPAN/AORN/SGNA standards.
    • Must work in 3 or more units within the department.
    • Will be responsible for precepting new employees and assuming charge role when needed.
    • Assists with education initiatives.
    • Facilitates patient experience by assisting with development and implementation of action plans.
    • Contributes to process improvement and quality by auditing/tracking two Key Performance Indicators.
    • Promotes team knowledge by providing 2 in-services per year.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Provide patient care through nursing-based practices upon American Nurses Association Standards of Professional Practice and Professional Performance.
    • Value specialty unit, nursing, and institutional strategic initiatives and health system goals.

    Job Requirements:

    - Education: Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) for RN I/II; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) for RN III/IV.

    - Experience: Varies by RN level.

    - License/Certification: Texas RN license; additional certifications required based on RN level.

    - Skills: Basic computer skills required.
