    JOBPURPOSE:

    Performs necessary duties in scrubrole. Takes on greater responsibility in providing patient caredemonstrating a higher level critical thinking and problem solvingskills. Functions in partnership with licensed staff. Performspatient care duties for clients of various age groups under thedirection of a registerednurse.


    KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Meets the criteriastated in Level 1.
    • Demonstrates advanced knowledge andproficient practice in the first scrub role the in majority ofsurgical procedures.
    a.

    Prepares for each surgicalprocedure in an accurate, aseptically prioritized and timelymanner, including reviewing and utilizing appropriate preferencecards, obtaining supplies, instruments and setting up.

    b.
    Facilitates the surgical procedure by draping, passing instrumentsand sutures.
    c. Ensures post procedure activities arecompleted by completion of counts, appropriate care of specimens,instruments and equipment.

    • Functions in partnershipwith licensed staff.
    a.

    Facilitates continuity ofprocedure and functioning of other health care team members whichincludes maintaining an organized back table, giving a briefconcise report when relieved and anticipating surgeonneeds.

    b. Observes patients condition and immediatelyreports any changes or significant findings to the physician andRegistered Nurse.
    c. Serves as patient advocate includingpatient care and safety.
    d. Supports licensed staff asrequested by utilizing skills and equipment in which he/she iscompetent.
    e. Assists in transportingpatients.
    f. Applies knowledge of advanced surgicaltechniques and those cases related to emergency situations andsurgical procedures in the operating room.

    • Performspatient care duties for clients of various age groups under thedirection of a registered nurse.
    a.

    Supports licensedstaff by performing treatments or procedures as delegated and onlythose which he/she is competent and in a safe, accurate and timelymanner; this includes clipping, prepping surgical site andpositioning of patient.

    b. Successfully completes theage-specific study modules.
    c. Uses appropriate languagewhen communicating with specific age patient.
    d.
    Appropriately modifies the approach to patients when performingspecific procedures/tasks.
    e. Uses appropriate equipmentand resources for the specific age, when performing procedures andproviding information.
    f. Appropriately provides comfortand safety measures for specific age patient.

    • Maintainscompetence.
    a. Exhibits a higher level of collaborationwith peers in making decisions related to surgical patientcare.
    b. Retains new information and implements newprocesses or use new equipment.

    • Performs otheressential duties.
    a. Serves as a preceptor for peers onthe surgical services team and new orienting employees.
    b.
    Prepares case carts according to procedure and preferencecards.
    c.

    Prepares OR room and other areas (as needed) forreceiving patients, which includes stocking, cleaning equipment orstorage areas, turns OR room over, orders/requests supplies,preparing instruments for future procedures, notification ofspecialty staff regarding needed instrumentation orequipment.

    Qualifications:


    MINIMUMEDUCATION REQUIRED:

    High School graduate orGED.
    Graduate of a Surgical Technologyprogram.


    MINIMUM EXPERIENCEREQUIRED:

    Certification as a SurgicalTechnologist or 3 years of surgical tech experiencerequired.


    MINIMUMLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
    N/A


    ADDITIONALQUALIFICATIONS:

    Certification as a SurgicalTechnologist preferred
    BLS certification required
