Category Staff Exempt/Non-Exempt Exempt Full-Time/Part-Time Full-Time Description POSITION BEGINS SCOPE:The Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Residence Life is responsible for developing a robust residential program where students develop holistically in thriving communities.
Under the supervision of the VPSL, the ADOS/DRL will be an innovative and collaborative leader and will guide all facets of a residence life program with almost 1000 beds.
The ADOS/DRL is the lead role for the conduct process, and is a key position in shaping the future of Mars Hill University culture.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Provide leadership to and management for the following areas: Residence Life, Camps and Conferences, and the Mailroom (other areas may be added)
Encourages professional and personal development of staff, including the development and accomplishment of objectives and actions connected with mission Fosters a collective effort to positively shape the student experience Provides guidance for a residential system that includes almost 1000 residents Ensures holistic student programming to build community and lifelong relationships through appropriate developmental and educational initiatives Leads efforts to integrate family in student persistence Oversees fiscal responsibilities related to the areas listed above The ADOS/DRL is responsible for the supervision, training, mentoring, evaluation and professional development for professional staff and student staff members Using student development theory and principles of student formation, the director will encourage and empower both professional and student staff as front line workers in student development Ensure proper staffing in living areas for all related residence life functions including lock-outs, work order requests, programming sign-ups, assignment questions, and guest registration Focus service and development efforts to keep occupancy, student satisfaction, and retention to the highest possible levels, and set progressive annual goals to improve each of these areas Develop and implement effective residence hall policies and programs that foster an environment conducive to learning and positive community development Must work in a collegial fashion and enhance key campus partnerships with other campus offices as this position interacts frequently with many departments across campus Represent residential life on various campus committees including Lion Life/Lion's Roar (Orientation), Admissions programs, and Homecoming/Alumni Weekends Manage the Residence Life budgets and monitor for spending by the professional and student staff in congruence with our Student Life mission Orchestrate the student judicial process, including updating and directing university policy Develops a judicial program based upon institutional values Administers student discipline Trains judicial hearing officers Advocates for college students and involves them as appropriate in divisional decision-making processes Counsels with students and parents as needed Reviews, revises, and implements university policies related to student life Oversees updating of the university handbook Serves as the student grievance officer for all non-academic issues Coordinate policies and practices of the conduct system Manage 24-hour crisis intervention and emergency procedures coverage for residence life and respond to and address residential life emergencies Investigate and adjudicate student conduct cases in a timely and effective manner Develop and revise judicial procedures in conjunction with VPSL Communicate with campus constituencies Works in partnership with Academic Affairs to develop, implement, and evaluate curricular and co-curricular programs that integrate faith and learning Contributes to the Incident Response Team (IRT) and works collaboratively with University Security on issues of safety Serves on the Student Care Team Serves on various student success teams Assists with marketing plans, publications, and website design/content for Student Life Ensure best practices in Housing and Residence Life:
Assignments Maintain an up-to-date license agreement, housing applications, change of housing status, student handbook, and other applicable forms necessary for communication about Residence Life (including on-line) Assist in the administration of software systems including Adirondack, Pivot, LionTrax (Pharos 360), and become an expert on other campus systems for security, retention, financial, and academic reasons congruent with the position Work with the Assistant Director of Residence Life regarding the room change process and maintenance of records regarding re-assignments, occupancy records, and other assignment functions In conjunction with Assistant Director of Residence Life, manage marketing materials in collaboration with marketing team to assist in student development and enrollment efforts Programming The ADOS/DRL will oversee the development, planning, implementation, budgeting, and evaluation of all programmatic efforts in the residence halls Develop and improve theme housing and living learning communities; provide oversight to programming specific to the first-year residential community Serve on the Student Care Team Housing Work collaboratively with the Director of Facilities and the Assistant Director of Residence Life to ensure all housing needs are met; in particular, ensure that all maintenance and housekeeping needs are met Assist with the management of an annual furniture and building aesthetics purchases Ensure that safety and security procedures are established and maintained by working collaboratively with the Director of Security Assessment The ADOS/DRL provides leadership for the planning, direction, and assessment of all student development aspects of the Office of Housing and Residence Life Provide occupancy, outcomes, programming and violation reports on a monthly basis Create departmental goals, coordinate assessment efforts and teach student learning outcomes Perform other special tasks, projects and duties as assigned by the
VPSL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Although the job is somewhat sedentary in nature, the position also requires the ability to engage with students, faculty and staff after hours and on weekends - and as such, requires some movement
TRAVEL/TIME REQUIREMENTS:
A normal 40-hour workweek is required, with work on evenings or Saturdays On-call duty Position Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
