    Job Title: School Nurse

    Location:
    - Transition Program North, 4839 North 72nd Street, Omaha, NE 68134
    - Transition Program South, 4875 F Street, Omaha, NE 68131

    Reports To: Building Principal

    Work Schedule/FLSA Status: 10 months/188 duty days (August-May) / Exempt

    • Extra Duty ($40/hr) assignments available during Summer School (June-July)

    Salary Schedule: As outlined in the OEA negotiated agreement, commensurate to experience and degree

    **This position is for the 2024-2025 school year**

    Position Purpose: The school nurse plays a crucial role in promoting student health, fostering development, and enhancing academic success. They serve as the vital link between healthcare and education, ensuring quality care, advocating for students, and contributing to a system that nurtures growth and potential.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Completion of a Registered Nursing Program, required.
    • Hold a valid nursing license with Nebraska's Department of Health & Human Services or the Nurse Licensure Compact, required.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR & AED) or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire, required
    • Minimum of Bachelor's degree, required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Special Services School Nurse Certificate through the Nebraska Department of Education, required.
    • Ability to develop positive relationships to promote mutual dignity and respect among students and staff.
    • Ability and patience to work interactively with students.
    • Excellent attendance record.
    • Display of professionalism and confidentiality.
    • Outstanding skills in communication and organization.
    • Proficiency in using Microsoft Outlook and student information systems.
    • Knowledge of OPS's mission, goals, and employee roles.

    Essential Performance Responsibilities:

    • Provides nursing/health care for students of various ages with diverse medical needs.
    • Conducts health assessments, creates emergency health care plans, and ensures immunization compliance.
    • Maintains student health records, handles medical emergencies, and educates on health topics.
    • Participates in crisis teams, wellness committees, and collaborates with staff, parents, and the community.

    Additional Duties: Assigned tasks by Central Office Administrators or the Superintendent.

    Equipment: May need to use assistive technology and basic office equipment.

    Travel: Limited travel may be necessary.

    Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards:

    • Must respond swiftly in emergencies and possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Interact with district personnel, stakeholders, and diverse populations.

    Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

    • Expected to fulfill all duties and hours, seek approval for deviations, and maintain a professional appearance.

    Terms of Employment: Governed by state laws, Board of Education policies, and Teacher Contract.
