    Our Health Center offers a range of primary and specialty health care for adults and children. We provide specialized clinics, Eye Care, Dental, Pediatrics, and OB/GYN.

    Our Dental team is committed to providing quality treatment for patients of all ages, including specialty pediatric dental care. We work closely with primary care providers across Dimock's campus to support patients and families - from Pediatrics and Behavioral Health to Child and Family Services, to ensure that dental health plays a role in all patients' lives.

    Summary/Objective:
    The dentist is an essential member of a multidisciplinary team that provides oral health care to patients in an urban community health center serving a diverse community.

    Essential Functions

    1. Clinical Care: Provides dental care for patients as part of the care team, across the life spectrum.
      • Preventive care: Provides basic dental screening and preventive interventions such as cleanings, sealants, topical fluoride (including fluoride varnish) applications, regular oral prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance, and oral hygiene education for parents of children aged 1 year and all adults;
      • Diagnostic services: X-rays, oral health risk screenings;
      • Restorative Treatment: Fillings, extractions, dentures, and crowns;
      • Emergency care: For conditions that can be managed in the outpatient setting e.g., dental abscesses.
      • Activities may also include:
        • Endodontist: Including root canals and crowns;
        • Pediatric Dental Care: Oral health care for children aged one year and up;
        • Dental screenings: At Dimock's Head Start, Early Head Start and preschool programs, as well as community health fairs.
    1. Referrals/transition of care: Reviews and signs off on all transition of dental related care documentation (ED, referrals) from patients. Works with team on systems for follow up of any outstanding needs, transitional needs, and management plan for no show referrals.
    2. Access: Accessible for clinical care both in person as per agreement on contract and after hour's phone consultation as per clinic specific rotation schedule.
    3. Documentation: For purposes of seamless communication and data collection, dentist clearly documents all clinical interactions (in person and by phone) in the electronic health record in accordance with health center and clinic documentation workflows.
    4. Patient Centeredness: Ensures that the patients' needs are at the center of all treatment plans and broader clinical operations plans, and actively involves patients in development of such plans.
    5. Community member/citizenship:
    § Self-monitoring: Ensures maintenance of own knowledge base. Ensure that own interpersonal skills with patients and other clinical staff is always professional and courteous.

    § Team monitoring: Work with team members to enhance their skills and plan for continuing training in clinical and customer service areas. Helps to highlight to team the big picture of how the department runs smoothly. Ensures that staff interpersonal skills with patients and providers are always professional and courteous. Ensures that team operations are systematic and efficient. Maintain communications with clinical director regarding performance of care team. Clear knowledge of process to communicate to appropriate administrators all performance issues for team members.
    1. Continuous Quality Improvement: Accountable for individual and team quality measures. Participation in team or department discussions to optimize data documentation and to take data/measurement to design improvements to processes. Helps to develop interventions in current systems/processes that to lead to improved outcomes for patient, populations, and clinic operations.
    2. Participation in clinic specific projects: May include internal improvement projects, research projects, and grants, as well as supervision of dental school externs, dental hygiene externs, and/or dental assistant externs.
    3. Other duties as assigned.

    Work Environment
    This position operates in a clinical setting.

    Physical Demands

    May require pushing and/or pulling up to 40 pounds. Will require frequent sitting, standing, and walking.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
    This position operates under an 8:30am-5pm schedule.

    Required Education and Experience

    1. DMD or DDS required, or completion of an accredited dental program.

    2. Minimum of 4 years' experience in a FQHC (Federally Qualified Health Center) required.

    3. Experience with diverse population preferred.
