- Demonstrates efficiency through the appropriate use of resources or supplies to support timely and effective delivery of patient care. Identifies needs for specific equipment and ensures adequate and properly functioning equipment and supplies are available for patient care. Identify operational needs for units including but not limited to needs related to capital equipment; medical supplies; office supplies; hours of practice; minor equipment; and equipment maintenance. Participate in the new hire process: Shadowing process, selection and oversee specific staff orientation to maintain established standards of care and to ensure competency. Specific professional development and coaching for assigned cohort of staff including quarterly rounding and annual performance appraisals. Provides immediate counseling for staff when specific behaviors or incidents negatively affect patient care or the general work environment. Write up incidents. Participates in the corrective action process. Promote staff retention, team building/collaboration. Performance Improvement/Regulatory Requirements:
- Ensure shift practice is in compliance with state and federal medical laws (EMTALA, HIPAA and House Bill 316). Enforce and maintain corporate compliance. Identify and oversee risk management issues. Ensures staff compliance with established policies, procedures, standards and accreditation and licensing regulations. Actively involved and engage staff in departmental performance improvement (PI) activities according to department PI plan.
- Assist the manager in evaluation the quality of patient care and staff performance through: Personal observation. Facilitating quality improvement monitoring activities. Interviewing patients/families/staff. Reviewing documentation. Clinical Resource and Competency:
- Maintain hospital wide and department specific nursing competencies and completes annual competencies in required time frame. Collaborate with the Department Educator and/or provides for orientation and educational needs identified in the department. Function as a clinical resource for area of clinical specialty. - Minimum of five years of clinical and progressive management experience in area of clinical specialty.

Job DescriptionUC Health is hiring a Full-Time Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor for the Same Day Surgery Department, First Shift (7a-5:30p) at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
The Clinical Registered Nurse (RN) Supervisor assumes the responsibility for ensuring excellent patient care is being delivered, maintaining expeditious patient flow with a focus on customer service, and supervision of nursing staff. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will provide input on staff evaluations and complete evaluations for their regular staff cohort. The Clinical Shift Supervisor will also assist with cost containment, and manage all employees to do the same. The position requires knowledge of leadership and effective interpersonal communication skills.
Same Day Surgery unit has 27 bays. Patient population consists of both IP/OP. We serve OR, IR, and Cysto, prepping patients for surgery and also processing phase II discharges once recovered in PACU. The Same Day Surgery Supervisor would be responsible for the following, including but not limited to, overseeing day to day operations, rounding in both SDS and PACU frequently throughout the day, attends Periop safety huddles and meetings, makes the plan for flex staff, makes the plan for boarders, assists with recovering patients in PACU until staff arrive, will staff clinically as needed based on department staffing, facilitates patient throughput between PACU and SDS, orders supplies, conducts resource rounds, performs chart audits, assists in onboarding new hires, collaborates with the manager for corrective action and annual evaluations, assists with API scheduling, processes departmental maintenance requests, conducts accreditation compliance checks, and participates in any TJC/ODH/OSHA regulatory surveys within the department.
