    600 Hour Security Job Description

    Department: Security

    Reports To: Director/Security

    Hours: 15 Hours Per Week (600 hrs per year Max)

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    Greet and direct visitors, verify the purpose of business in the school, and check student
    ID card for all young people entering the building. Provide supervision of students in
    designated areas and provide building surveillance.

    QUALIFICATIONS - EXPERIENCE - KNOWLEDGE:

    * High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
    * Skill in interacting with both students and adults in a courteous, fair and firm manner
    based on the school policy.
    * Background or training in working with adolescents.
    * Good judgment and an ability to respond quickly and calmly in stressful situations or
    emergencies without over-reacting.
    * Willingness to work flexible hours and overtime for extra-curricular events.
    * High standards for integrity, honesty and accuracy.
    * Experience/education in law enforcement, security , or crowd control.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    * Manage security desks - check all visitors entering the building (validate ID card or
    issue a security pass.
    * Supervise students in common areas.
    * Understands and enforces school policy.
    * Investigate faculty/student reports of policy violations and/or illegal activities.
    * Assist staff in emergencies (disaster alarm)
    * Conduct security checks of campus if on patrol
    * Assist security or other personnel in the building when needed
    * Carry out other duties as assigned by the Security Director or Director of Student
    Services.

    SKILLS REQUIRED:

    * Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
    * Ability to write routine reports.
    * Ability to speak effectively to parents, staff and students.
    * Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized
    situations.
    * Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school
    community.
    * Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
    * Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of
    Education policies.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

    * While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, walk, stand
    and talk or hear.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is continuously
    interacting with the public, staff and students.
