    Union Position $22.83 per hour.

    Shift differential for shifts starting after 3 pm

    POSITION SUMMARY

    Prepare and cook foods, including therapeutic diets for seniors, and direct other Food Service employees engaged in food preparation. Strictly adhere to recipes and food handling standards.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Assists the Executive Chef and other Cooks.
    • Collaboratively working with other Dining Services team members.
    • Prepping, preparing, and serving meals.
    • Assisting, as directed, with additional duties as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned based on scope of responsibilities.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Cook.
    • Prior convalescent/hospital food preparation experience preferred.
    • Must be able to interpret and follow established procedures.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills to deal effectively with residents and staff.
    • The ability to establish effective working relationships. Must work well with others and as a team player.
    • Ability to communicate effectively.
    • Ability to stand and/or walk up to 90% of the work time.
    • The ability to perform routine repetitive tasks with minimal supervision.
    • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
    • Aptitude for performing all sanitary related tasks.
    • Commitment to performing with high quality standards.
    • Ability to maintain on time regular attendance practices.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
    • Demonstrates proficiency in clear and effective English communication, both verbal and written, coupled with a strong ability to comprehend and execute instructions accurately in various formats. Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    • Work is moderate to heavy and may involve frequent lifting of objects weighing up to ten (10) pounds, with occasional lifting of heavy equipment or food supplies, weighing up to fifty (50) pounds or more.
    • Work requires frequent walking, bending, reaching, twisting and crouching.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Work conditions include exposure to heat, humidity, steam, cooking odors, refrigerator temperatures and wet floors.
    • Work conditions include: Enclosed areas of preparation where there is heat from steam table and refrigerator motors.
    • Work with sharp knives and very hot food.
