    JOB SUMMARY:

    This position works closely with staff and faculty at Asheville MPH, UNC Gillings, UNC Asheville, and MAHEC to develop, implement, and assess a strategic recruitment plan in order to meet enrollment objectives. Leads efforts through the joint partnership of UNC Asheville - UNC Gillings MPH Program while cultivating relationships to raise awareness and interest in the MPH program throughout WNC and beyond.

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

    BUILD GENERAL AWARENESS AND GENERATE INTEREST IN ATTENDING THE MPH:

    • Communicates with students about career services available through Gillings School of Global Public Health and UNC Asheville.
    • Plans and leads alumni gatherings.
    • Onboards students, staff, and adjunct faculty.
    • Serves as liaison for facility-related and technology needs of program.
    • Communicates externally: maintains social media, works with three institutions to promote news coverage of MPH program.
    • Invoices UNC Gillings for MAHEC's MPH expenses.
    • Researches and implements evidence-based graduate-education recruiting practices.
    • Organizes and manages recruitment processes including giving input into and finalizing an annual strategic recruitment plan that includes activities scheduled each month and who is staffing.
    • Maintains an ongoing, detailed log of activities, assessment of effectiveness of each, and lessons learned for future recruitment.
    • Focuses on recruiting a diverse class (across experiences, age, gender, race/ethnicity, etc.) and implements equitable processes and decision-making (financial aid, scholarship awards, etc.).
    • Works closely with UNC Asheville and UNC Gillings admissions staff to schedule, plan, and represent the program at recruitment events (virtual and in person), including Open Houses, Undergraduate information sessions, representing the program at various events, and tracking interactions.
    • Plans media about UNC Asheville - UNC Gillings MPH Program faculty, staff, students, Stewarding Group, and activities.
    • Requests and develops student, staff, alumni, and stewarding group profiles as well as testimonials about the program and photographs from students, instructors, preceptors, and other groups.
    • Works closely with marketing staff at UNC Asheville, UNC Gillings, and MAHEC to adapt and place marketing materials and media (including posting), including coordinating social media posts, entering ads and other marketing efforts.
    • Works closely with MPH program co-directors to ensure consistent messaging.
    • Provides educational experiences about public health for organizations that may recruit, hire, or precept MPH students.
    • Coordinates efforts with recruitment professionals across UNC Health Sciences at MAHEC.
    • Develops recruitment strategies unique to mid-career populations that are likely to be attracted to a master of public health.
    • Communicates about the program across a range of disciplines at regional colleges and universities.

    SUPPORT PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS THROUGH APPLICATION PROCESS:

    • Works closely with UNC Gillings Admissions staff to research, utilize, and implement best practices in recruitment and admissions efforts.
    • Represents the MPH program to prospective students and various influencers.
    • Serves as primary contact for prospective students in the interest stage and pre-application process to increase yield through the pathway.
    • Guides applicants through application and matriculation processes.
    • Interacts with potential applicants via phone and email.
    • Drafts and sends regular emails and newsletters to prospective students at all stages of the recruitment process.
    • Organizes, invites prospective students to, and leads Application Workshops and Admitted Student Day.
    • Coordinates with UNC Gillings to schedule, let prospective students know about, and implement assistance for application fees.
    • Maintains detailed records of each interaction with each prospective student to maintain high-touch recruiting.

    This position will need to use a vehicle to conduct recruiting business throughout Western North Carolina regularly and occasionally in Chapel Hill or elsewhere in North Carolina.

    Having the drive to keep yourself abreast and up to date on the new breakthroughs in your area of expertise and communicating them to the rest of the team, as appropriate. This also includes keeping up with your licensure and yearly training requirements within your area expertise along with MAHEC's organizational training. Finally, the ability to apply the depth of knowledge maintained and gained through this process in real life scenarios as appropriate.

    SPECIFIED SKILLS

    • COMPUTER
      • Excellent skills in Google Docs and Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and database applications required. Ability to manage electronic scheduling and email.
      • Excellent skills in navigating online software including zoom.
      • Proficiency in video conferencing using virtual platforms (zoom, WebEx, and/or Google Meet) required.
      • Ability to learn new software applications required.
      • Proficiency in Canva preferred.
    • COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
      • Excellent interpersonal skills with individuals and comfort speaking before groups.
      • Ability to create a warm, welcoming environment for prospective students.
      • Strong organizational skills and strong follow through related to answering prospective students' questions and connecting prospective students to faculty, current students, and alumni.
      • Ability to work as an effective team member.
      • Excellent written and verbal skills
      • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality related to prospective and current students' grades and educational experiences.
      • Ability to balance multiple and sometimes competing requirements from multiple interested parties.
    • FOREIGN LANGUAGE
      • Spanish speaking skills preferred.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds in order to transport recruitment materials.
    • Must be able to walk up to two miles when visiting campuses and distributing materials.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • None.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors degree and 3 or more years of program management and student support experience. Fundamental understanding of public health and how it differs from healthcare.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Masters degree.
    • Three years experience working in higher education.
    • One year experience working in a public health setting.
    • Budget and finance experience in a complex system.

    REQUIRED LICENSES:

    • Valid driver's license required.

    SCHEDULE:

    • Expected to work onsite at MAHEC when not traveling for recruiting events.
    • Hours will vary each week based on scheduled recruiting and program events; evening or weekend hours are regularly required; travel within WNC is frequent, and overnight travel to other parts of NC is occasionally required. Work hours will need to be flexible in order to respond to special work assignments, or evening activities, as requested by the program co-directors.

    POSITION COMPENSATION:

    $67,500
