    This position is represented by the Anchorage Municipal Employee Association (AMEA) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the AMEA.

    Example of Duties

    Perform entry-level engineering work including design and preparation of plans and construction contract documents for municipal street, drainage, site, and water quality projects.

    Utilize computer-aided design and drafting software applications, and recognized design criteria.

    Work includes scoping, planning, design, and preparation of construction documents including drawings, specifications, bid proposals, and detailed estimates of probable construction costs for new or upgraded municipal street, trail, drainage, site, and water quality improvement projects.

    Research of existing conditions; site analysis; design study; and the public involvement process.

    Oversight and coordination of all aspects of design, such as surveys, soils, public information, permitting, traffic, lighting, utility coordination, right-of-way and easement requirements, assistance with right-of-way and easement acquisition, cost estimating, bidding support, construction support, and resolving project impacts on adjoining properties.

    Knowledge in engineering fields such as soil mechanics, hydrology, hydraulics, and materials as well as applicable regulations and guidelines including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines for right-of-ways and site facilities.

    Perform other related duties as assigned.
    Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
    High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and seven (7) years of engineering, planning or drafting experience.
    OR

    Associate's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Planning, Architectural & Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline and five (5) years of engineering, planning or drafting experience.

    OR

    Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Planning, Architectural & Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline and three (3) years of engineering, planning or drafting experience.

    OR

    Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Planning, Architectural & Engineering Technology or a closely related discipline and one (1) year of engineering, planning or drafting experience.


    All applicants must possess and/or obtain:

    • Valid State of Alaska Driver's License with satisfactory driving record at time of hire.
    • Satisfactory background check which includes criminal, education, and employment history at time of hire.

    Preference will be given to Anchorage Municipal Employees Association (AMEA) employees.
