    Unpaid volunteer contributing time to Intermountain Healthcare in various roles.

    NOTICE- If you are accepted to volunteer with us you will need to attend two meetings an onboarding and an orientation. These events are held in the evening from 5:00-7:00pm on the dates listed below. You will need to be able to attend both dates in that set. If you can not attend one of these series please wait to apply until we post again in August.

    Set#1: Tuesdays 6/4 and 6/11.

    Set#2: Wednesdays 6/5 and 6/12.

    Playroom Volunteer

    PLEASE NOTE: We have two playrooms at Primary Children's. An inpatient playroom (Kids Crew) and an outpatient playroom (Kids Clubhouse) this application is for both departments.

    Upon being offered a volunteer position you will be placed in one of those playrooms based on your schedule and each department's needs.

    Job Description and Activities:

    The job description below provides an overview of both playrooms, but job duties will vary slightly for each space.

    In the playrooms we see families from all walks of life all with different backgrounds and unique health challenges. The mix of children, ages, and medical conditions is constantly changing throughout the day. One of the most important aspects of volunteering is helping to create a positive experience for patients and families through play and activities.

    As a playroom volunteer you will be interacting with patients and families in a variety of capacities. Rather you are in the playroom playing games, making crafts, taking out the activity cart or delivering items to patient rooms, each day will be different.

    Volunteers assist in all tasks related to the playroom including cleaning toys, replenishing supplies, making craft kits, cleaning wheelchairs and wagons, etc. Each shift will be different, and volunteers will need to be flexible and able to respond well to a variety of responsibilities and assignments.

    Shifts are 3 hours in length and volunteers will be assigned one shift a week. We ask that volunteers commit to stay for 6 months or 80 hours.

    The playrooms have volunteers beginning at 9:00am with some shifts going as late as 8:30pm. Some shifts may be full and not adding additional staff at this time. Volunteers will be selected based on availability and qualifications.

    Available shifts

    Monday: 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 or 6-8:30

    Tuesday: 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 or 6-8:30

    Wednesday: 9-12,12-3, 3-6 or 6-8:30

    Thursday: 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 or 6-8:30

    Friday: 9-12, 12-3, 3-6 or 6-8:30

    Saturday:1-4 or 4-7

    Sunday: 1-4 or 4-7

    Qualifications:
    • Must be at least 16 years old.
    • Able to commit to 6 months of volunteering.
    • Able to follow and execute instructions.
    • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
    • Able to work with children in varying age groups.
    • Able to work well with diverse populations.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Sensitive to patient and family situations / dynamics
    • Maintain and respect professional relationships.
