    Position: Physical Therapist (Pre-School)

    Location: Brooklyn, NY

    Block Institute, a Preschool Special Education program for children ages 3-5, is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Physical Therapist to join our multidisciplinary team. Located in the Bath Beach section of Brooklyn, our focus is to educate and ensure the well-being of our students. As a Physical Therapist, you will work alongside other education team members to provide therapy for our students according to their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). You will have the opportunity to work with enhanced programs including Pals with Paws (Animal Assisted Therapy), a therapeutic swimming program, an indoor sensory gym, and an outdoor playground with adaptive equipment.

    Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
    • Develop physical therapy programs in response to identified needs and in accordance with program mandates for service.
    • Administer active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, including but not limited to therapeutic massage, heat, light, sound, water, and other modalities.
    • Instruct, motivate, and assist students in improving functional activities such as perambulation, ambulation, and daily living activities.
    • Train Physical Therapy Assistants (PTAs) and other staff in the implementation of physical therapy services and goals.
    • Observe children during sessions, evaluate data on their responses to treatments, and report progress to the Interdisciplinary Team (IDT).
    • Assess the need for, and thereafter monitor, adaptive equipment such as orthopedic braces, prostheses, canes, walkers, and wheelchairs.
    • Participate in IDT meetings regarding the children in their care and contribute to the development of individualized plans.
    • Attend required in-service training, staff meetings, and student-related meetings, ensuring compliance with all regulations and Block Institute policies.
    • Supervise PTAs as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Qualifications:
    • NYS PT Licensure.
    • Doctorate/MA/BA Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited PT educational program.
    • Experience with Developmentally Disabled populations is preferred.
    • Ability to read, write, and comprehend correspondence, reports, progress notes, and other related documentation.
