    Description

    This position provides supervision to the US Field and Treasury accounting functions. He or she ensures that the financial information is correct and reliable for both management and external reporting.

    Supervise the daily operation of accounting functions of Camping and US Field to ensure transactions are properly and accurately recorded in a timely manner, meeting all stated deadlines.

    Ensure US Field and Camping financial reports that are consistently accurate, timely and useful for Young Life leadership. (e.g. MFR, adhoc management reporting and analysis, etc.).
    Review your team's periodic reports and reconciliations for timeliness and accuracy
    Manage all capital related accounting functions including Construction-In-Progress (CIP), Fixed Asset and Capital Project Management within the WD system.
    Serve as the principle point of contact to prepare adhoc analysis and reporting, with exceptional turn-around time (e.g. requests often come up with short notice, which require a thorough and quick response).
    Develop your team, ensuring they are equipped for success through the provision of knowledge, training and guidance. Remove obstacles that prevent staff from accomplishing tasks.
    Review and approve staff journal entries to ensure all transactions are accurate, supported and recorded timely

    Utilize creative problem-solving in identifying and implementing new process enhancements and better financial reporting, so as to keep Young Life 'cutting-edge' in these areas.

    Camp Accounting

    Oversee camp accounting operations to ensure that core responsibilities are completed consistently and timely: Capital and Major Maintenance CARs are approved; US Foods wire is made timely; tax filing are completed timely.

    Lead best practices in Retail/FS data capture considering the system options available to the organization.
    Review various monthly operational and capital camp accounting reports
    Review and approve camp related monthly journal entries
    Review monthly bank and other balance sheet account reconciliations prepared by bookkeepers to ensure accuracy.
    Serve as point of contact to address camp leadership inquiries and prepare ad-hoc analysis and reporting, with exceptional urn-around time (e.g. requests often come up with short notice, which require a thorough and quick response).
    Provide accounting assistance to camp leadership (managers and coordinators), camping services, camp construction and development leadership.
    Address unique International camp accounting and reporting needs and develop best practices for this business section, accordingly.
    Maintain engagement with Retail, Camp Admins and Bookkeeping to ensure roles and interdependencies are clearly identified and are functioning
    US Field Accounting
    Provide accounting services and financial analysis for US Field ministry operations
    Perform recurring journal entries, as requested by US Field staff
    Prepare monthly journal entries for all US Field accounting units
    Work with US Field staff to properly record US Field capital activity in the general ledger and fixed asset sub-system
    Serve as second tier contact for US Field-related accounting/finance questions from US Field staff
    Prepare P Card accrual monthly
    Open or close mission units as needed (daily or weekly) including areas, staff associates, regions, etc., and accommodate the appropriate structural changes to the accounting system
    Notify appropriate Service Center staff and/or departments of changes to mission units
    Restructure the accounting units for reorganization as needed (daily or weekly or monthly)
    Maintain appropriate general ledger accounts for US Field mission units, depending on their type
    Ensure that general ledger balances are correctly allocated for restructured or closed accounting units
    Fixed Asset Accounting

    Responsible for all aspects of accounting relating to capitalized assets as well as completing month end processes related to Fixed Assets.

    Maintain proper accounting treatment of for tangible and intangible capital projects ensuring accurate reclassification from CIP to Fixed Asset with appropriate depreciation/amortization assignments.

    Maintain Fixed Asset roll forward schedules monthly and at yearend reflecting additions, disposals and adjustments by ministry sections.

    Ensure annual review of Fixed Asset listings are occurring by each ministry section and that obsolete assets are disposed of and new assets are recorded, accordingly.

    Serve as main contact for external auditors providing CIP and Fixed Asset schedules and supporting documentation for activity as requested.

    Effectively present complex subject matter to senior leadership.
    Develop clear meaningful reports and executive summaries as requested by senior leadership.
    Other duties as assigned by VP of Finance and CFO.
    Supervision

    Provide leadership, timely evaluations and oversight to Camp and US Field accounting teams, in such a manner that fosters excellence and a positive customer experience in all aspects of the accounting function.

    Coordinates and runs the month end closing process for US Field and Camping.
    Work with other accountants to ensure that shared responsibilities are adequately covered and are completed consistently (e.g. month-end close, ACH transmission, end-of-day posting, etc.), looking for cross training opportunities wherever possible.
    Present new opportunities to develop and challenge staff.
    Analyze current processes for efficiency and improvement.
    Support other Financial Services colleagues as opportunities are presented.

    The anticipated salary for this position can range from $63,890-$79,962 depending on the relevant education and experience.

    Qualifications:
    Education
    BSBA in Accounting
    CPA, CMA designations or MBA preferred
    Experience Required for the Job
    5 plus years of supervisory experience preferred
    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Spreadsheet Server
    Ability to pay extreme attention to detail and handle daily multi-tasking.
    Excellent professional communication skills (verbal and written).
    Demonstrate exceptional customer service and work product while filtering frequent interruptions and questions.
    Three to five years of non-profit accounting or comparable experience.
