    Summary/Objective The position of Environmental Manager serves as the liaison between PCM, the farms, and the regulatory agencies by performing the following duties.

    Essential Functions Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1.

    Prepares all permitting and regulatory reports, including to gather data as required, researches, and ensures information submitted for applications and reports is accurate, complete, and timely.

    2. Responds and provides timely follow-up to information requests from agencies and farms. 3.

    Serves as the day-to-day contact for all PCM farms and any other farms who have indicated such an arrangement on their permit application.

    4. Ensures that all records that must be kept internally are complete, accurate, and stored in the appropriate record-keeping systems. 5.

    Leads the manure management program for PCM by selecting vendors for custom application, sets the schedule for manure application, and assigns vendors to farms.

    6.

    Provides oversight of the manure application program by determining the pumping requirements for each farm and provides those specifications to the custom applicators.

    Collects application report from the vendors and retains those reports in appropriate record keeping systems. Handles and resolves any issues as they arise. 7.

    Ethically responds to issues as necessary, investigates, gathers data and contacts agencies and counties were applicable to self-report and/or correct information when required.

    8. Occasionally, travels to sow barns to collect manure samples as required for reporting. 9.

    Reads and interprets the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA) and State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) rules and regulations; ensures compliance with all federal, state, regulatory agencies, and local regulations.

    10.

    Provides advice and council to owners and unit managers; often providing education on what can and cannot be done in compliance with various rules and regulations.

    11. Occasionally, may assist in preparing a client to be ready for a county meeting to review new permits. May attend those meetings with the client to help answer any additional questions. 12. Represents the Pork Producer Industry in local and state events and conferences. 13.

    On occasion, may serve as an interim unit manager or provide additional support at the sow farms in which PCM manages.

    14. Provides oversight of on-site compost facilities. Helps design compost facilities for new construction.

    Ensures that existing compost facilities are operating correctly and in compliance with all federal, state, regulatory agencies and local regulations.

    15. Helps PCM execute the Holiday Pork program for Managed unit neighbors, unit managers and PCM/FVC employees. 16. Helps PCM execute any recycling efforts for the Managed Units. Competencies 1.     Supervisory Responsibility This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but may at times delegate tasks to other PCM resources; or provide work instructions to vendors and have oversight of.

    Work Environment This job operates primarily in a professional office setting, but also occasionally visits the sow farms and crop fields.

    This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

    When at the sow farm or at a field, the employee will be exposed to dust, animal dander, manure and odor.

    The noise level in the work environment can be loud.

    Additionally, employee may also be exposed to outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and manure.

    During pumping season, the position must work rapidly and efficiently.

    This season can be taxing as the position manages tight deadlines to complete pumping amongst inclement weather, breakdowns and other issues as they arise.

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.

    The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

    Some filing is required, which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand on a stool as necessary.

    Occasionally, may be required to lift and maneuver equipment or items that can weigh anywhere from lbs. Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is expected that the position will require long hours and weekend work during pumping season. Travel Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
