    Description

    POSITION SUMMARY:
    Addendum for Lead Technician Role


    In collaboration with the Business Manager and Chief Ophthalmic Technician, the lead technician is responsible for training, overseeing and assigning daily responsibilities to the technical staff in the department in order to facilitate patient flow.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    In addition to the COA, COT or COMT job description, the lead technician is responsible for the following duties:


    • Assigns daily technical coverage to facilitate patient flow.
    • Meets regularly with Manager and Chief technician to discuss ways to improve overall performance of the department and increase patient satisfaction.
    • Responsible for communicating with manager, chief technician, providers, technicians, front desk staff and medical administrative assistant about any concerns, new protocols, etc.
    • Under the direction of the Service Manager and Chief Ophthalmic Technician, organizes and holds regular technical staff meetings in the department.
    • Assists in training of new ophthalmic technicians and orienting technicians from other departments that are assigned to the department
    • Maintains adequate medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam and testing rooms. Responsible for ordering or delegating a team member to order supplies when low.
    • Ensures that all medical equipment is working properly. Notifies the appropriate personnel if a problem is identified.
    • Responsible for the initial screening and testing of patients. Skills and knowledge should reflect that of the level of certification held as a COA, COT or COMT. See specific job description for competency.
    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the patients' age, mental and physical needs.
    • Complies with all state, federal and local regulations and laws governing the performance of this position
    • Adheres to all hospital policies and procedures including HIPPA and patient and employee confidentiality
    • Demonstrates knowledge and compliance with Infection Control/Joint Commission/Department of Public Health (DPH) standards.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications


    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
    Current JCAHPO certification as an Ophthalmic Assistant (COA), Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT). 5 years of experience in a supervised setting as an Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician/Medical Technologist is preferred.
