The Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI) serves the Governor and his Cabinet as staff for long-range planning and research and constitutes the comprehensive state planning agency. LCI assists the Governor and the Administration in planning, research, policy development, and legislative analysis. LCI formulates long range state goals and policies to address land use, climate change, population growth and distribution, urban expansion, infrastructure development, groundwater sustainability and drought response, and resource protection. LCI' s budget programs include State Planning and Policy Development, Strategic Growth Council, California Volunteers, Office of Community Partnership and Strategic Communication, Racial Equity Commission, and Youth Empowerment Commission. The Governor's Office of Land Use & Climate Innovation (LCI) is seeking to hire one student assistant under the Climate Services Program. The Climate Services Program helps organizations in California understand and use climate change information to advance climate adaptation action across the state. The program develops climate adaptation guidance and tools, such as the Vulnerable Communities Platform, which identifies the communications in California most venerable to the impacts of climate change. The student assistant will support work related to data access and technical assistance (TA) for Tribal communities. The student assistant will also work closely with the Governor's Office of Planning and Research's Tribal Liaison to support engagement, interagency coordination, and event planning. Ultimately, the student assistant will gain experience in technical platforms, TA, and Tribal engagement. The student assistant will also adhere to department policies, rules, and procedures including maintaining regular attendance, with reasonable flexibility of working hours as determined by the Supervisor.

Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check: educational verification (degree, license, or official transcript) or DMV clearance. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises, Inc. (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
UEI does not allow students to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI Student assistant position for a different UEI student assistant position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week's notice.
UEI is not a multi-state employer. UEI only employs candidates who live and work in the state of California. If selected for the position you must reside in California and all work must be performed in the state of California throughout the course of employment.
Prerequisites
Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.

Students must be enrolled in at least: six-semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four-semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Majors/Fields of Study
Native American Studies, Anthropology, Sociology, Environmental Studies, Sustainable Environmental Design, Urban Studies, Geospatial Information Science and Technology, Geography, Environmental Sciences, Climate Adaptation Science, City Planning, Analytics.
Work Schedule
F lexible workdays and work hours, Monday – Friday, between 8 AM – 5 PM. The final work schedule will be determined by the supervisor.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 24 hours per workweek (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per workweek during breaks; (winter, spring, and summer).

Minimum Qualifications
- Must be dependable, punctual, and flexible in schedule.
- Must have working experience with Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Must be capable of communicating with various levels of staff and the public.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team.
- Must have strong attention to detail.
Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and possess a good attendance record.
Preferred Qualifications
Individuals who are, or have been, a dependent child in foster care, a homeless youth or a formerly incarcerated youth as defined by Government Code section 18220 are encouraged to apply and will be given priority. Duties and Responsibilities
- Research summarizing best practices for upholding Indigenous data sovereignty. Conduct review of literature, white papers, and other resources to understand best practices to uphold indigenous data sovereignty in technical platforms.
- Support development of a Tribal GIS Data Portal at LCI. Using best practices, design a framework for Tribal GIS Data Postal on LCI's ArcGIS Online interface. Lead engagement for use and revision of Tribal GIS Data portal framework to ensure it is most supportive of Tribal needs. Work with consultants at ESRI to design and implement Tribal GIS Data Portal.
- Support case study development for LCI's Vulnerable Communities Platform related to climate impacts on Tribal communities. Identify case· studies that could leverage insights from the Platform and from other Tribal data (if appropriate) and develop case studies using ArcGIS Pro. Publish
• case studies in storytelling format ( e.g., ArcGIS Story Maps). - Support LCI's Tribal Liaison's portfolio. This portfolio includes Tribal engagement, relationship-building, interagency coordination, among others. Support technical assistance and relationship-building for Tribal grantees of LCI, under the supervision of the Tribal Liaison. Support LCI' s Tribal Liaison in interagency coordination, event planning, engagement, and other efforts.
Support LCI' s Tribal engagement for California's Fifth Climate Change Assessment. Seed connections between UC, CSU, and other institutions' Tribal communities and the Fifth Climate Change Assessment. Support event planning, engagement, and communications.
Physical Requirements
