    Summary:

    The Director of Human Resources is responsible for building and overseeing a high- functioning, efficient, effective, and people-driven human resources management function for our client. This role includes responsibility for payroll and benefits administration, implementation of employee policies, legal compliance and risk management, implementation of processes and systems, support of senior leadership in employee development, fostering a positive and productive school culture, compensation administration, employee performance evaluation system, analysis and tracking of personnel budgets, employee relations, and talent management. Role and Responsibilities:

    • Manage the human resources department team, ensuring appropriate resource allocation, prioritization, productivity, and positive employee morale
    • Work closely with the Chief Operating and Financial Officer to assess, analyze, and implement human resources best practices and build a human resources-centric culture. Review and make recommendations for improvement of the Schools policies, procedures, and practices on personnel matters.
    • Responsible for the Schools compliance with federal and state legislation pertaining to personnel and wage/hour matters.
    • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation and ensure Schools compliance
    • Review, assess, prioritize and implement best practices in human resources management for independent schools
    • Responsible for all payroll and benefits administration
    • Responsible for annual 403(b) review and compliance requirements
    • Review, prepare, and administer the Schools wage and salary program in partnership with the Head of the School, COO/CFO, and other members of the compensation committee
    • Responsible for benefits administration, including contract benefits (group health, dental, long-term disability, life insurance, flexible spending plans, 403(b) & 457(b) plans, workers compensation) and paid time off policies and procedures (9-month, 10-month, 11-month,12-month, part-time, full-time, seasonal, substitute, and 12-month employees, faculty and non-faculty, exempt, non-exempt, multiple schedules and varying work requirements)
    • Initiate, author, implement and communicate personnel policies and procedures and conduct training and oversight to ensure proper compliance is followed
    • Conduct new employee orientations and onboarding and manage annual employee agreement processes
    • Consult with COO/COO, Head of School, senior leadership and legal counsel as appropriate on personnel matters
    • Work closely with senior administration and leadership on employee relations, performance issues, professional development, training, and resource allocation, including budgeting.
    • Participate in performance improvement meetings with employees Perform job analysis and write job descriptions
    • Develop and oversee the human resource information system
    • Oversee talent management processes, including recruitment, onboarding, background checking, and regulatory compliance
    • Performs job analysis and writes job descriptions. Develops and implements HR initiatives.
    • Serve as a source of information and support for employees of the School in human resources management and work-related matters.

    Essential Skills:

    • Demonstrated knowledge of human resource functions such as compensation, benefits, employee relations, training, and development
    • Understanding of HR laws, experience w/ payroll system(s), strong computer skills Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and follow through to conclusion
    • Exhibit sound judgment relating to confidential matters

    • Demonstrated experience balancing the broader needs of an institution with the needs of an employee or department

    • Strong understanding of HR processes and data including, but not limited to, benefits eligibility and enrollment rules, recruiting, compensation, affirmative action, etc

    Education and Experience:

    • Minimum: Bachelors degree in a related field and 8 years of human resources management experience at the management or director level or equivalent experience/training.
    • Preferred: Masters degree in a related field; independent school experience and SHRM Certification. Experience with the implementation of HRIS systems.
