    The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.

    Title of Position: Health Educator Consultant (HEC)

    The Health Educator Consultant is responsible for helping conduct diabetes prevention, education, and awareness programs with Health Promotion and Education. This position is also responsible for the coordination and implementation of other educational programs in the community as well as functions as the primary trainer of facilitation programs and provides continue education courses as required.

    Your Specific Responsibilities:

    • Coordinate program activities with the Chronic Disease staff and other health department staff as needed.
    • Participate in local community partnerships, coalitions, task forces and meetings representing Florida Department of Health - Hillsborough that support and enhance programming goals.
    • Promotes the Health Department programs and refer community members as appropriate to other community resources offered locally.
    • Research and collaborate with community partners in support of Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Get into Fitness Today (GIFT) program, Get into Fitness Together- Learning and Emotional Activity Program (GIFT- LEAP), Diabetes Self-Management Education (DSME) program, and Blood Pressure Program (BP for Me).
    • Facilitate, serve as a back-up, support, and promote for all programs. This includes: DSME, Blood Pressure Program (BP for Me), Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Get into Fitness Today (GIFT), Get into Fitness Together- Learning and Emotional Activity Program (GIFT- LEAP).
    • Ensure all TRAIN the trainer facilitator guides are complete and updated annually.
    • Outreach to medical community promoting Get into Fitness Today (GIFT), Get into Fitness Together- Learning and Emotional Activity Program (GIFT- LEAP), Health Literacy, Diabetes Self-Management Education Program (DSME), Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), Blood Pressure Program (BP for Me).
    • Assist in the coordination of facilitation trainings for (GIFT) Get into Fitness Today program, The National Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP), and the GIFT LEAP program (Get into Fitness Together-Learning Emotional Activity Program).
    • Develop and maintain curriculum for various trainings: lunch and learns, one-time presentations on data, one pagers and educational content for all of Community Health.
    • Create continue education programs that will be presented to DPP Lifestyle Coaches for annual credits.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Public speaking and teaching skills.
    • Lifestyle Coach with National Diabetes Prevention Program.
    • Knowledge of national, state, and global trends and strategies in health education and promotion.
    • Assessment and program evaluation skills, methodology & statistical analysis experience.
    • Coalition-building skills.
    • IT skills including but not limited to Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
    • Social marketing and grant writing experience preferred. Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion and public health education.
    • Knowledge of the principle and practices of community-based health promotion planning.
    • Ability to plan, develop and deliver health promotion and public health education services.
    • Ability to develop audiovisual materials.
    • Ability to collect and analyze data.
    • Ability to prepare reports. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.
    • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

    Qualifications:

    Minimum:

    • One year minimum working with health education programs.
    • One year minimum providing community outreach and/or collaboration with community organizations.

    Preferred:

    • Lifestyle Coach with National Diabetes Prevention Program.
    • Experience preparing health-related materials such as reports, brochures, etc.
    • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
    • Experience facilitating trainings.
    • Bachelor's or master's degree in public health, biology, nutrition, or a health-related field from an accredited college or university.
